How do you get the centre oval off on the AU Falcon? Got a dodgy A/C switch
I need to replace.
Also, anyone here with an AU, would you say your A/C is 'cold' or just cool?
I'm not sure mine's as cold as it should be, but I've not been in any other
AU's, nor do I know anyone that has one to compare it to.
Cheers,
Crash Lander

Ours is Cold, verrry Cold.

We have only had it a few months but when the A/C is on, we get a real musty
smell. Not sure whether it is cos of lack of use or gas is low or
something..

That's good.

Crap growing in the evaporator after not being used for
a while?

I was quite frankly surprised with what I found after taking
apart, and fixing, after low pressure switch shat itself ...

Yukky. I fixed/regassed it on the farm as the part was
available in Orange at the time - and gave it a firm
cleaning.

I do use R290 (propane) which is a fairly performance
based substance as far as A/C refrigerants go though,
so in humid weather the evaporator will dump a *lot*
of water.

I'm not a smoker, however as you can see - thungs can
get mouldly.

Used to have a Commodore that had the smell like old sweat come from
the A/C. Took a whole can of Glen20 to get rid of it. Something to do
with pooling water on the inside evaporator.

Christ, after looking at that, mine's coming apart on the weekend.

I've found this problem can generally be avoided, at least in my EL, by
switching off the aircon a few mins before turning off the motor and the
blower fan.

Smell always comes back when aircon has been running flat out right to the
point where the motor is killed.

Mate's AU is the same.

Aircon in the EL is shit. Wonder if I need a regas or if the system is
inferior to the AU?
Anyone know?

Yep, any moisture left on the evaporator after switchoff will breed bacteria
so switching the A/C off before stopping will dry out the evaporator and
prevent bacterial buildup.

Ford aircons generally got worse as the models progressed. EF/EL air was
pretty good. AU was fair, while BA was fucking hopeless.

If your EL isn't getting cold, then it needs attention.

Yeah! That's great! Now, back to my question. ;-) Any idea how to get to the
switches in the oval centre piece of the AU dash?

A 4 pound hammer will do it nicely :)

From memory, I think they just pull out with a bit of force, but I can't be
certain of that. Feel free to try though, as even if they're not supposed to
I'm sure they will :)

LOL! Yes, I'm sure it will with a bit of force. I'll try over at the Ford
Forums. Thanks anyway.

Seems the stereo needs to be removed, which requires some special tool, or a
reasonable mock-up of one, then about 4 screws, then the glovebox has to
come out, then some cable from the venting system! I think I'll just use the
a/c max button. Much easier! LOL!
