No real need to, I was here first :-) If at any time I get sick to the
point of
totally fecked (or needs major organ transplant, or other major fecking
about),
then, shoot me - I'm not up for that shite, because I prolly won't
wanna be here
even after it, so I guess, yup hands up.
Actually didn't the Eskimos have a solution?
Anyway back on the OT stuff, the point I'm trying to make is can't
expand
world population any further. It's full - in the same way you get to a
point
you can't compress a gas anymore past liquid state. It's not rocket
science.
And, I'll be pollitically incorrect and mention the "fuck off we are
full" sticker
seen on motor vehicles that has an outline map of Australia which I
also
agree with.
Then again, I get stressed in large quantites of people always in my
way
always all the time, which does not help, since I'm timid enough to
wait
and wait and wait when I should just barge in. Maybe I need a new "get
outta me fecking way" ToyCo 'lux or something.

The ultimate irony is that there is a passage in the bible that
explicitly state you must never swear to do or say something, or even
promise, as only god can have the final say on that. All you can (and
must) do is to give your word that you will do so.
Me? If you asked 20 people about something they saw 15 minutes ago,
you'd get 20 wildly differing stories. How the fuck could a story
survive intact for thousands of years, through umpteen translations, and
likely as not deliberate alteration at the hands of those in power?
Doesn't mean faith is a bad thing mind you.
I also recall a passage that states that one must never be tattoed or
wear markings (including makeup in a modern context) and that anyone who
does so must be stoned to death. funny how you don't see the wack jobs
who take out a certain passage to support their zeal or prejudice
following the letter of the law on that one. Which _is_ the basic
problem with religion. Most people have a particular immorality, be it
intolerance, or just a need to think they are better than everyone else,
and they work hard to find and subvert a given religious text to support
it, rather than reading it with an open mind, realise it's not the word
of god, but rathe the detailing of various peoples' _experience of_ god.
and then reading into the _real_ theme, and trying to be a decent moral
and compassionate human being.
A few generations back, after a great aunt of mine just barely survived
a pregnancy (the child too, or was that the one that died during?).
Anyhoo, the local priest came past when the husband wasn't there,
_demanding_ that she have more kids, or she'd go to hell. The great
uncle found out and literally beat the shit out of him. Something along
the lines of 'by all means pray and educate about and on behalf of god,
but don't you fucking dare even think about playing god with my wife's
life). She already had a few kids, quite young, and they'd _all_ be
motherless if that turd had his way.
Curiously, the family are all buried in church of england graves (to
which I joked, out of the frying pan, into the fire). When all that
'stuff' was written, there were fuck all humans around, and probably
nobody (or nobody of consequence) had the foggiest that the world wasn't
flat and limitless, much less that it's resources would be finite. I am
very much of the belief, that _if_ the stuff in the bible (or some of
it) were truly the word of god, then god would still imho approve, and
to some measure _endorse_ birth control and a bunch of other things.
In high school in history, we learnt about the industrial revolution,
and how forests were cleared to buggery. And asked 'how could they be so
short sighted' Anybody see any change with modern humans? Someone on
another list said (and I wholly agree) 'wanna know when we'll stop using
fossil fuels? the very moment we run out of them completely, and not a
minute before' and like it or not, it's true.
I suspect we may wipe ourselves out (or at least most of us) before that
actually takes place. Or as a direct consequence of it.

That's very true, however the medics cover it by providing treatment,

I don't think I'd survive if I was obese. Got to "fat" a number of
years ago and could not really deal, especially in summer,
now got to "thin" - in some ways that is as bad due to strength
issues. I think it's better though.

Zactly.
I always found it amusing that there are old & new testaments. It's like the
head dudes of the church got together at an annual general meeting and one
said "Listen fella's, this is a fucking good book an all, but let's jazz it
up a tad to make it more relevant to today's world".
Personally, I'm waiting for the Millenium edition.
> Doesn't mean faith is a bad thing mind you.
No, but I find the concept of staunchly believing in something so intangable
as a "great creator" to be peculiar, particularly in light of the total lack
of a single shred of evidence.

Yep.
The funny thing about it is that the people in the church seem to consider
the Bible as myth, whereas a lot of the churchgoing "believers" are so far
into believing the thing as gospel it's disturbing.
Particularly in the deep south US. I mean, boy, they are some *very* strange
backward arse inbred fucks down there... :)

They can be cunts.
Concrned about little other than more members of their church, which means
more donations in the poor box (which goes a long way to making the church
very wealthy, while we still have shitloads of poor people).

Sadly.

Most, if not all of the wars in the last 100 years have been about the
control of territory (which meant control of recourses). Prior to that they
were basically all about religion. In the future we may end up like wild
animals killing each other en masse for the last drop of oil, while turning
to religion for help in avoiding it.

The biggest problem is that the glass isn't (predominantly) having water
poured into it. It's overflowing with sewage. In other words, for the
most part it's unwelcome in the glass, irrespective of how much of it
there is.

In human terms we are looking down the barrel of a nasty future, but are
humans special? I don't think so. We're just an experiment in evolution. As
long as there is some water and solar energy there will be some species
making use of it. It doesn't really matter if they are slime moulds or
primates. Ultimately the sun will burn itself out anyway.

Exactly my view too. Not to mention that you can read into the bible
anything you like depending on the people doing the interpreting of the
"message".

It conveniently explains away things too complicated for the stupid and/or
ignorant to understand.

My grandma always said that you can't ever trust those who sit closest to
the altar. She must have observed a few things sitting in the back of the
church over her lifetime, not that you need to go to church to see it.

It was common for the local priest to go around and ask for more children
from their flock. Now we have politicians encouraging the same and you can't
trust those cunts either.

Death control at the hands of mankind has been particularly effective at
various points in history, often carried out under the name of god too.
