In a lot of ways, it's a shame they're wrong.

My brother, who lives in Charlestown, has owned 48 EHs over the years.
Quite a few of those were $20 rust buckets bought for parts, but some
were replacements for cars that he crashed.
On the traffic light subject, he was slowing for a red light on the
Pacific Hwy at the top of Northcote Drive. The lights went green before
he got there, so he gave the thing a bootful... Turbocharged 186 putting
out about 350HP managed to get his EH completely in front of a car that
ran the red while turning right out of Northcote Drive. That pushed him
onto the median traffic light pole, which came into the driver's A-pillar.
His car then swung around the pole, with the driver's rear quarter
smacking the front of a car waiting to turn right into Northcote Drive.
Worst part was that the red light runner was with friends who were behind
her. They claimed that she didn't run the red and blamed my brother.
He thus wore the damage to his own car plus the car that he was pushed
onto but strangely, the woman who drove into him didn't claim against him.
He also learned not to swerve for animals on the road the hard way by
rolling another EH on the Devil's Elbow at Belmont North after swerving to
avoid a dog. He got a lot of stone tray dents after that. :-p
> What happened to the Colt? Dunno. Who cares.
Prezackly.
> Always look.
Always do.
A good driver is not someone who avoids running into anyone else. That is
a normal driver. A good driver is someone who avoids letting others cause
a crash with them.
I think I worked that out somewhere in my mid 20s and haven't had anyone
run into me since. :-) Believe it or not, I have never been in the wrong
in a crash and have never even run into another vehicle that got into my
way.
I've worn the cost of crashing into a kerb once to avoid the idiot who
pulled out in front of me, but they later redesigned the roundabout on
Newcastle Road at Jesmond to eliminate the lane I was in so I blamed the
road, not the fact that I was off sick with concussion at the time and
probably shouldn't have been driving that quick around the outside lane on
the roundabout... :-)
I'm just trying to work out how long ago that was. Hmm. Must have been
late 1997 or early 1998. Had access to tyre machine, balancer and aligner
at the time so paid for a bottom ball joint and straightening of one steel
rim, scrounged a spare bottom wishbone and did the rest myself.

Seems like he did all the right things in the situation, assisting an
injured motorcyclist and then assisting a drunk that caused the injuries
to "fall down" are perfectly normal things to do and are to be commended:-)

Correct Daza , all those years working around the pubs of Brissy
taught me to
"do the right thing"
and I really tried not to have the drunk fall down HARD.

Agreed 100%. 'Falling down' is what drunk people do, and can be
dangerous if not 'supervised' by caring folks like Atec.

Yeah, I was wondering about that too.
If someone has been injured in an accident but is still breathing, then CPR
is the *last* thing you should be thinking about. You run the very real risk
of turning a major injury into a tragic one.

True - but you'd suppose the bastards would actually have a look about
the intersection while it was effectively 'dead'.

Perhaps :)
Motorcyclists in particular are very susceptible to spinal injuries in
collisions (or fucking smashed hips, but that's another story), and
performing CPR on someone who is breathing on their own can make matters a
shitload worse.
If they can be moved into the "Coma" position without risk, then fine. Make
sure their airway is clear and try to keep them warm to prevent shock, and
then just wait for the Ambo's.
