View Full Version : Byrne Ford crap service

Had the BA in for the regular warrenty service
and they were to adjust the handbrake at the same time
full service and brake adjust was $236, not too bad I thought
on the way home the wife calls me on the radio and says there is a bad
thumping from the rear and the car was shaking, felt like a flat tyre
she said
stopped at the Carseldine Caltex and as soon as I got near the left rear
I could smell burning brakes
so the tool had over adjusted them
Called Byrne Ford and they sent their mobile mechanic straight out
he had to completely dismantle the rear brakes and realign the atuator
from the cable
so we were happy with the fact that they got straight out and fixed it
within an hour of leaving their service department
was home about and hour and get a call from the service manager telling
me that an apology was just not enough so they are sending a cheque for
a full refund for the service and told me that the "technician" would no
longer be working there
Not sure about his work history, maybe he had stuffed up once too often
I don't know, hope they didn't sack some poor second year apprentice for
a first time stuff up
anyway
I still think Byrne Ford are shit for servicing
but for the warrenty(Ford Extended, not original factory) we have to
take it there
see how the next one goes

You got out lucky; they wrote my car off while it was getting it's 40,000
service!

(OK; there was a small matter of a bad storm and some localised flooding to

Leyland dealer apprentice drove my brothers P76 Exec off the rooftop

That's gotta be good, why waste time driving around the carpark? :-)

Seems you never drove a P76 Exec V8.
What Holden and Ford offered at the time paled into insignificance
when confronted with the quiet cruising ability of these cars.

be...just forgot the way.

Well, can't see what more they could do under the circumstances, did they
replace the pads as well?

The apprentice did your brother a big favour. :-)
BTW, did they replace the vehicle with a new one?

Nah, it'd been in too many times to try and fix overheating problems

True but they were badly let down by very poor quality control.

Why do people have to try to re-write history all the time?
The P-76 was a fucking great heap of shit, which is precisely why it failed.
It's main advantage over a Falcadore of the period was that it had rack &
pinion steering, but other than that it did jack shit better than anything
else.
When you could get one to run for long enough.

Oh absolutely.
My brothers car had been built without all the casting sand being
flushed from the block before assembly.
It clogged radiators, heaters, stopped water valves working and
stuffed water pumps.
When it was going it was a really nice drive.

I found them to be a wallowy heap of shit, just like Falcons, Holdens and

A mate bought one of the last ones, it seems Leyland didn't have time to
finish building it, they just threw the left over parts in the boot and
he finished assembling it when he got it home.
IMO it could have been a very good car if they had had the funds and
decent management to develop it properly.

I disagree.
It had some major design issues, such as the way water used to pool in the
sills and doors which used to eat the shit out of them as quick as buggery.
It was also as ugly as a bag of used tampons, and no amount of brilliant
engineering was ever going to overcome that huge hurdle.
As for it's mechanical package, I don't know what the big deal was.
The 6 cylinder engine was a heap of shit, and the V8 wasn't much better. It
used the same auto and arse end as a Falcon, and the only thing different
about it was the steering rack and front brakes.
I remember the first time I drove one, and my first thought was "Jesus, what
the fuck are these people on about? It's a fucking land barge just like
anything else".
