Hi all,

My contract is up, I've been talked out of getting a new phone, so Im
sticking with my un-user-friendly-but-so-thin Motorola L7.

Just wondering what might be the best plan for a BYO cap. I think Ill have
to go on a plan for 2 years, but was thinking along the lines of $29 for
$120 calls type thing.

My bills have been $59 (inc $59 calls) and that has usually been enough.

I also read that Dodo does really cheap prepaid, like 9c type thing...

What have people found...?

That's due to expire in Jan. They did renew
that offer the last time it was due to expire tho.

Why get stuck on a contract if you don't need a new subsidized phone?

Corporate plans can be good, but most of the retail plans are a rip-off.

You KNOW those "cap" plans are bullshit. And making 20% more calls can
double your bill. Its all a game between the consumer, and the marketing
geniuses at the telecos. Guess who usually wins.

Half of that was to pay for the handset, of course.
How many minutes do you want?

> I also read that Dodo does really cheap prepaid, like 9c type thing...

Dodo for Voda, or Isim.com.au for optus.

Seems to be the customers, at present. One reason why some of the major
telcos are getting out of capped plans

Exetel (Vodafone reseller) has some cheap caps - $20/$120 and $40/$280.
There are some unusual features, like a $20 setup fee, a bond, and
expensive MMS charges, but if you can get past those, it looks like a
pretty decent deal.
http://www.exetel.com.au/mobile_plans_capped.php

Virgin Mobile's Bean Counter deal is also worth looking into.
Not a cap, but dirt cheap rates - 10c/min (ie 5c/30 seconds) for calls
to any fixed or mobile phone, 10c SMS and free voicemail. It's
pre-paid, but has online itemised calls, and you can schedule auto
top-ups by date or by credit level.
Available online only. Must recharge with $25 every 45 days.

As another poster said, I wouldn't sign up to any long-term contracts
if you're not getting hardware out of it.

Dunno if you've tried them yet, but my daughter and her husband have
mobiles with Three. They're LG 3G phones. So far, they've been happy
with the service and on the $39 cap plan.

Well, for a start they are not really "caps" any more. Originally '3'
offered a GENUINE $99/month cap, at a decent call rate, but it didn't last.
Now it is "$X worth of calls for $Y", with an inflated base rate.
The problem with that is a massive marginal cost if you go over the
bucket amount, and many people are careless.

I'm looking at its $29 cap plan:

http://www.three.com.au/personalhomeCapsandplans$29cap.jsp

Call costs are 35c/30 secs which is about 10 cents cheaper than
Telstra's rates for say one of its $30 plans.

How can that be inflated?

Best Value is iSim (39c/min, charged by the second, no flagfall, 15c SMS, 19c voice retireve)
Or Bean counter (10c/min, charged in 30s, 25c flagfall, 10c SMS, FREE Voicemail)

Beancounter Comparison to 3 Cap
3 $49 cap gives you $300 at 35c/30sec (1month to use)

If Bean Counter was 35c/30sec
$50 would give you $350 (3 months to use)
