AV wireless sender, how well do they work on fox and a stb ?
I am thinking of getting the one advertised for $99 from salesmart.

Do these wireless av senders work through a home with several rooms or
do the walls get in the way. Will I have to have all the doors open in
my home for the signal to reach my other tv sets.

Most AV senders work on a frequency of 2.4GHz.

So do a lot of portable telephones and in-home wireless networks.

If you have any of these devices in your home, or nearby, this type of AV sender can give very poor (read unwatchable) results.

Better off to go for a 5.8GHz model, although much more expensive, or hard wire from the Fox/STB combination to the other TV.

IR functionality (changing channels remotely) is another issue if you also require that, with some IR extenders not working with Foxtel boxes.

Generally yes, return it if it does not perform, so open the box neatly.

IF you use other 2.4Ghz gear that many video senders also use etc; example -
cordless phones, wireless router (WLAN's) etc, don't by the video sender if
it is on the same frequency as that other equipment.

You can buy video senders that operate on other frequencies, as you can with
cordless phones. These devices if on the same band do interfere with each
other.

Internal doors need to be open but front and back doors, including windows
must be kept closed else the tv programs escape.
Demolishing all internal walls will improve reception 110%.

If you hold a jar in front of the tv you can trap the signal by quickly
placing a lid on it the moment the tv program finishes. You can then watch
it at a later date.

Well I'm certain he will tell you where to stick your peg :-). Especially
since you didn't warn him to line the jar with carpet so as to avoid echoes.

Actually, the picture quality for the one that I bought from DSE was
crystal clear. Unfortunately the Netgear wireless router produced an
"electric fence" tic-tic audo interference.

Remote remote control worked great. Connect two little pads over the IR
remote's sensor on the Austar box and outside where we had the other end
of the unit we could use the remote.

I live in an appartment and use a Crest AV sender (purchased from Bing
Lee for about $100) so I can send my Topfield PVR from my loungeroom to
my bedroom.

I am 90% happy with the picture quality, and about 60% happy with the
sound quality. It also retransmitts the IR remote control so I can use
my Toppy remote control from the bedroom.

It took a LOT of stuffing around (about 2 hours) to get "just right",
particularly getting the IR remote sender in the lougeroom in the right
spot. I thought for a while I had a defective unit but I persisted and
finally got the right spot. It has 4 different bands to choose from so I
suggest you try to find the one that gets you the best result.

I actually found my transmitter/receiver worked best when positioned
close to the floor, rather than high up.

My biggest gripe is the interferance when me (or my neighbour) uses a
microwave oven which makes the picture totally unwatchable.

Hope that's of use.
