So what type of programs will we be getting on this channel.
Lots of "reality" television?

Its nothing to do with the U.S version all they have done is bought the
branding.

Your never going to get the same version as the US, because the rights
to the programs belong with FTA and other PayTV stations here.

Welcome to re runs of old series. If they could show some new series
over waiting for the free to air channels then I'd subscibe to it.

LOTS of reruns of Stargate SG-1, Battlestar Galactica (the new one),
X-files, Andromeda, and did I mention Stargate SG-1? And often?
Sometimes they'll take a show all day long, like Quantum Leap for 6 or 8
straight hours, but at least they are in order, thank goodness.
Once in a while they have original movies that they had made or bought
but they're usually low-grade TV quality. Once in a blue moon, they'll
show a major sci-fi motion picture -- but with billions of hours of
commercials.
There are some new serials that are all pretty bland, too.

It used to cost $12/year when it was on C-band, and that's about what
it's worth.

That said, I still check daily to see if I want it again. :)

Looking at a few days programming, I'd say it's nearly identical to what
is on in the US, except we don't get Firefly anymore. That was a good one.

Its not the same as it was 5 years ago.
Nothing but garbage horror shows now.
Only Friday night is worth watching.

Curious about the sci-fi channel. They only list 8 odd shows - how can 8
shows fill 24 hours each day?

Also, don't all channels have a minimum Australian content requirement?
There is no Australian sci-fi so how will they fullfil this requirement?
(TV1 doesn't play any aussie shows either, but I think Cash Trivia Challenge
lets them get away with it ;)

Foxtel's version of the Sci Fi channel is nothing but a bunch of stuff they
have already aired ad nauseum on TV1. See here:

All they have done here is purchased the rights to the "Sci Fi Channel"
branding from the US, and repackaged their old shit. What a con.

No Australian Sci Fi ??? No new stuff granted but there's been several
Sci-Fi shows made in aus before.

"Time Trax" and "Farscape" immediately spring to mind. There was a few aimed
for kids in mid afternoon timeslot as well such as "The Girl From Tomorrow"
"Spellbinder" and others

Are you sure about the Australian content rules for Pay TV?
There are other channels on Foxtel that don't play any Aussie content...
Antenna Pacific
RAI International
UKTV (I think)
FOX News
CNN
ESPN

There may be others (like some of the documentary, kids and music channels)

I think I saw Time Trax, was that the show about the cop chasing
fugitives from the future, and it had the girl from Ferris Bueller's Day
off in it?
Was the main character in Time Trax also the captain in Firefly?

Anyone remember Phoenix 5?

ABC, sometime in the 70's.............

Production values were somewhere below early "Rocky Jones - Space
Ranger" of the 50's.

Yes and Yes (Mia Sara) though unfortunately she was in very few episodes :(

No. Dale Midkiff vs Nathan Fillion
