A few days ago I was shopping for a good DivX or MPEG4 player, and I came across LG DN100H (with USB & HDMI) and Pioneer DV490V-K or S (No USB). Because of th USB feature, I pick up the LG, took it home immediately hook it up and threw some avi file at it. It played all my avi movies in full screen (no black trip top and bottom of screen), regardless of the file resolution eg
620x 268 etc.... I was impressed. Then came my disappointment, one movie, it didn't show subtitle ( nothing to do with sub file) because it displays full screen so the subtitle was not seen. The video output only have wide screen or 4:3 settings, so there's nothing I could do.

The disappionment with the LG brought the Pioneer DV490K back to my mind. I took the LG back swap for the pioneer. When i tried to play the movie that missing sub when played on the LG, it shows sub, because the screen was not full screen like LG (black trips top and bottom). I was quite happy, so I test some more avi movies, then it came to this file which is the last file of a movie, it just could not play, but this file was ok with the LG before. Lucky I have seen the movie on the LG, imagine how piss off I would be if I was watching the 1st file and the 2nd file would not play. So now I am starting to think whether I should feel regret for swapping the LG with Pioneer, but then sometimes the LG can't display sub, that's also nuisance. How about every now and then the pioneer can't play the last file of a movie? Iam also starting to miss my Z330, which I killed it during firmware update.

Hmmm why there's not a player that can do every thing?
Can anyone recommend a good player?

Thanks

If you can hold out, Strathfield have 2 cheap Mediatek based players coming (same chip as Z330).
Last I heard was approx 1st week of November.

Thanks andw, since I already swap LG for Pioneer once, I don't think they'd be happy to see me again asking for a refund. Do you know where I can buy
a refurbish Z340 or Z330?

Thanks.

No, you could try staticice and see if you get any hits.
http://www.staticice.com.au/

But you might be very surprised by the pricing on the new models coming.
(can't say anymore)

The Pioneer DV490 is a Mediatek based player, so I don't know what extra functionality you could expect from a new cheapy player with the same basic chipset...

No wonder the DV490 functions look similar to Z330.
Oh just to update my experience with the DV490, it seem to be ok now....the one file it didn't play before...now is ok......don't know what happen before.

I would think there would be very few divx files the pioneer wouldn't play. Maybe 5 out of 100. Whereas if you like subtitles you would want this on almost every divx video you watch. So I think you are much better off with the pioneer.

Since you have this Pioneer can you confirm whether they have included a shuffle function for playing MP3 or do you need to still get a firmware update for this function like for the older pioneer divx players ?

I was told by dude at JB HIFI that the Pioneer would not play video off USB. Is this true? And that it is only 1080 on HDMI and not component. I was set on buying it.
