US cable has been going for decades with self made content which gets
farmed and usually treated badly by Aus FTA networks, but it still
doesnt threaten the networks in the US.

Not if its gonna cost money to watch TV. Most people refuse to pay a cent to
watch television purely out of principle.

Don't hold your breath, It's not about to happen, the Telstra network will
need to be replaced first,, While the cableing might be cabable of it in
the Cities, the country area's are another deal altogether.
What you might be getting is cable TV services, high speed broadband,
instant phone and data services through the power lines.
This servce is running NOW on underground powerline services, and
overhead power line delivery is not that far away.

Excuse me, the system of using underground power lines for Internet, TV etc
is working quite well in Tasmania, Canberra, and parts of NSW, Also Japan
& Mexico have had the system for a number of years.
All the householder needs is a power point to plug the modem into, and your
computer, TV, Phone simply plug into the modem.
Once they overcome the RF interferance problem, this system will worl on
overhead power lines.

Which the companies behind BPL seem extremly reluctant to do (almost verging
on a refusal) then may be it will work. But until then it will continue to
be a major problem to the various users of the RF Spectrum (who have paid
their licence fees to ACMA only to shafted).
Suggest you check out these couple of links in regards to BPL

Not at all, I'm simply stating the facts.
Our friend provided a couple of links [other post] for which I thank him..
Even though the information is something like 12 months old, and there is
no up-to-date info, on what's happening at the present time.
But really this thread did not specify the use for "ham" operators, but
was a generalization, or other uses for Power lines , apart from Power,
which uses less then 10% of the cable area.
And as I said in my first reply,, RF interference has been experienced in
the use of overhead power lines.. But they will get round this with time.
The fact remains, Power lines are being used for other things apart from
the transmission of power.. And at the end of the day, the Telstra wire
network, is not the greatest thing in the world, when it comes to data
transmission // transfer
