View Full Version : Another Interest Rate Rise, Another Howard Lie.

It was pointed out that if Howard recons its a good thing interest rates
have just gone up because it shows how strong the economy is, then the
economy must have been really strong when rates were 17%.
Howard would disagree with this projection of course, because the only firm
benchmark we can use is the fact that every time the geriatric opens his
mouth, lies spew forth.

No at 17% the country had no income and the japanese blackmailed
keating or they would pull out of the bond market.Which they did
threaten and did for a week. The following week rates went up 3% in a
week.
Things have now changed, goverment doesnt have the strings to pull.
His got the GST and his enjoying windfall revenue.Something keating
never had only wished.

Could you give us one example of Howard lying.
And...geeez...1.75% rise in rates over 10 years of coalition government.
Labor could only dream of such a record. Whinge on.

That wasn't even a site. It was an archive of a site.
Why don't you just type (one finger at a time now)
'John Howard lies' into google without the quotes and see what it sends to
your screen?

Howards main platform at the last election was that a Howard government
would keep interest rates under control ... by repeating the line "interest
rates would be lower under the Libs". Forget the forked tongue political
doublespeak- the message to the people was that interest rates would be low
under Howard.
Howard never had any basis for making such a claim whatsoever, and the
evidence is that the Howard government isnt keeping interest rates low.
Howard cant even claim interest rates are lower than they would be under
labor. Howard lied. Pure and simple.

And he has delivered. A rise of 1.75% over 10 years.
They went up that number each month under Labor.

Given that mortgage repayments are around 30%, if interest rates go back
to 10% then repayments will be double the historical high reached in
1986, 3 years after Howard-as-treasurer fucked the economy and handed
Labor a hospital pass. Recall that the market crashed in 1987 because
inflation eroded profits away.
It's increasingly looking like history will repeat itself:
Money supply is catching up to CPI (it always does), so the RBA must
raise rates. OTOH if they raise rates, then people will be unable to
service their debt. Catch-22, thanks to John Howard.
