TCH-TCH. Spelling? -- 'English' and 'separate'? Sorry, given your statement, I just couldn't
help myself (one must agree that the point had to be made). ;-)

The sad thing about it is - far too many year 12 students *cannot* spell (see above) to an
acceptable level of employability - after all, that it the bottom line - WHAT IS NOT the bottom
line, is what academics think!
I didn't go to a High School. I didn't even finish third year (Intermediate Certificate) at a
Technical College (Belmore Junior Technical College) BUT I would be quite happy to issue a
challenge regarding spelling accuracy with the average year 12 student of today!
While I'm on my soapbox - it is interesting to note that the 'technical' school that I referred
to above was abandoned and reinstated (with the wisdom of the NSW government) to 'high school'
status when standards were (then) permitted to tumble to rock-bottom -AND- conversely, the
federal government is *currently* advertising the fact that they have (re)created (50 years
afterwards) some 20 or so technical colleges throughout Australia to provide an integrated
education system to better serve the needs of those young people who still consider that a trade
is a worthy profession! SHEESH, talk about quick witted! I recall (then PM) Fraser banging on,
in parliament, about the need to provide more appropriate secondary-level education for our
declining blue collar trade aspirants.
It is rather interesting to note that, my brother was an accountant who managed a multi national
company in Australia -AND- I was an airline pilot - both of us attended Belmore technical school
where we had grasped sufficient education to (1) acquire a trade, and (2) move on to a profession.
I learned, a few weeks ago, that my neighbour's 17 year old boy has just started an
apprenticeship as a baker AND his year 12 level schooling had NOT provided him with any
physics/chemistry (science) studies whatsoever. He didn't even know (not his fault) how yeast
interacts with the other compounds in the dough to get the bread to rise by producing CO2 gas -
something that I had learned as a 12 year-old technical school student! While not quite the
same, I can still clearly remember the 'first year' acid and calcium experiment in the science lab.
Australia *could* have been a great technically advanced country by now and the potential of our
youth (over the years) has been ignored and or destroyed by our 'nose-in-the-trough'
pig-ignorant politicians and poor quality educators!
I can't see much changing while state and federal governments keep fumbling the ball between
between themselves and our educators do not have to be proficient at their craft to remain employed.
Cheers.....

The RealDeal is Deliberate Dumbing-Down.
It's truly sad you haven't figured out that it's not incompetence, not
even neglect of the education 'systems' and their standards such as
they are.
It's completely and bloody-mindedly DELIBERATE.
Now, where were you?
That's right - thinking that the problems were 'accidental' due noses
in trough etc etc, busily ignoring the obvious.
Carry on.....

I'll not go into just how many years I worked my arse off
in a concrete office box , I won't.
40 y/o in the next few days, I don't want it to huppen, almost
can't let it huppen.
This follows along the lines that you should not have kids,
their lives are gunna be mess, as they will prolly mentally
get the shites. Think before you act folks! The whole world
wide picture ain't a good look.

You have a very distorted and wrong view of the world.
I agree with that the world is overpopulated but to suggest that every
young person has a screwed up life and are mental cases is stupid and
completely wrong.
Both my sons are over 21 and neither of them or their friends or any of
my friends kids fit your description.
BTW 40 is not old, "life begins at 40" is true in most cases, being
older means you are more wise and mature and there is nothing negative
about that.

And we were saying "life begins at 40"?
Hmmm, I prolly look better than five years ago when I was
prolly a bit of a lard arse.
So IOW, there is a 1/4 or 1/3 life bit? :-)
Hmmmmm, anyone else here see a problem with that? - I prolly
look better now as someone that just escthan 5 years ago when I was a
total lard arse, however
don't feel like it.
