Mmm, met up with a 20 litre can of Castrol RX Super
API CI-4, pricing, at $127.55 for a 20L tin might be
a bit high. When next to change oil, I'll see how it goes.

<2nd attempt to post this>
Delo 400 is only $108 per 20 litres.
A mate of mine works in the automotive lubricant industry (testing and
research) and they all reckon Delo 400 is the duck's guts for diesel
engine oil.

I also meant to add that they'll be releasing CJ-4 soon.

Fark!!!
Just paid $541.76 + GST for 200 litre Mobil MX, delivered on site.
It's sold as their fleet special. Still API CH-4 IIRC, though I
haven't checked the latest spec sheet. In any case there's no point
in paying for a higher API rating than is recommended for the
particular engine you're running it in.
Neither would Castrol be my first choice in diesel engine oils, even
if the price was right... nor second, third or fourth come to think of
it. :)

About to buy a Kenworth with 1.4m on the clock and it still runs like
a bird. Forgot to ask what he's been running it on but I doubt if
it'd be Castrol. :)
Anyone of the fleet deals has always worked fine for me... Shell, Tec
(Cummins/Valvoline), Caltex and Mobil have all offered good deals at
various times, but never Castrol... and not likely to. They just
don't sell enough of it to be competitive.
In the days when I worked for Govco they never used it either.

Does anyone here use Penzoil at all? For either race or road cars.

Been using the GTX Diesel product without any problems for
pretty much the life of my vehicle. (over 200,000) so, I'll give
this shite a go.
The engine/turbo still works ferpectly over 200,000, clutch has a
bit of a "Q" hanging over it, so I'll still give 'em a go.

I haven't got anything bad to say about pennzoil (or is it penzzoil? or
penszoil?) but there's been some mixed reports from friends about
another brand with the same first 3 letters. they cite (as some sort of
backup) the fact that it's hard to imagine a smaller company with maybe
1% of the sales (and hence money to put into r & d) could make a better
product.

200,000 is barely run in for a diesel so you need to do a lot more klms
to get an indication how its lasting.
John H said the KW he is about to buy has done 1.4 million klms which is
not unusual for a heavy truck to do, if its been treated right it will
still have a lot of life left.

I've heard similar stuff on some of the web-based forums (and have heard
just as many swearing by the stuff). Don't really know how true any of
it is though, have never had a problem with the Penrite stuff myself. I
would expect the bulk of their budget goes on big-dollar advertising
rather than R&D though. Pennzoil seems to work well, as far as I can
tell (for what that's worth - I haven't taken samples of any brand oil
in for analysis after oil change, I just make sure it's changed
regularly, erring on the side of doing a change earlier rather than
later, weekend time/weather permitting.)
Cheers,
Andy. (The other Andy.)

Where the fuck are you paying $108 for 20Ls of Delo 400
Last 20 I bought only cost me $80 and as for Castrol RX Super for $127,
shot elsewhere
and go for the Delo400, I've been using it in all my vehicles for the
last 16 years and it's been very good

I was paying $80 for Shell Rimula X, but WTF are you getting 20L of
Delo 400 for 80 bucks???

I'll never know how long my 3L was going to last as it's being rebuilt
right now. However the engine builder tells me it seems the previous
owner wasn't very nice to it (oil top ups rather than oil changes etc).
Here's to another 400,000 :-)

We have been using the Lubrimaxx stinky product which usually on special
at $85.00 comes with a large container of truck wash .
seems to be a good product and so far the testing on quality proves it so.

Gallon drum of it, purchased 20+ drums, sold 19 and kept 1, so it cost
me nothing and made $1000's on the deal....
Its says "Used By NASA".... neat!

Try buying direct from a distributor. Yellow Pages... *Fuel
Merchants*.

Go to your local(well in the nearest town) Caltex truck stop/fuel
depot/Distributor(may not be "Caltex" but distributes for Caltex)
I get mine from the distributor up here in QLD and $80 was the going
price, but they had a special on and I got $7 off
get two oil changes from 20L

Yeah I'll try John H's suggestion I think.

Is that because you do a LOT of "flow through" flushing when you change
the oil? I get 3 changes out of 20L for my Hilux.
