Sundays is Get The Petrol day. And I don't know why, but the Caltex in Qbn
attracts some of the silliest people. It's like they see the petrol station,
put their brain in neutral and do silly things.

When I drove in, all the spots for caps on the right side were taken. No
problem with Vitey, you just drive up nice and close to the pump on the
left, and you can pull the hose around the back. So I did that. opened the
cap.... and a woman in a large sedan drove in. She eyed all the pumps, and
decided that, since I'd just opened the cap and was about to stick the
nozzle in, she'd sit behind me, with her engine running, waiting for me to
fill and go. Right.

So Vitey took his 30 litres weekly dose of petrol, and other people came out
and drove off, and Mrs Idiot sat there with her engine running. Eventually,
I'm not kidding (why didn't I take a photo?), I'm the only car there (I'd
gone in to pay), and she's still sitting there. My car, and her car behind
it, and no one else for miles.

I had planned to do the windscreen too, but couldn't with her there, besides
idiocy might be catching so I drove off.

Drove off to the indoor mall in Qbn, to stand around in a line in Coles.
Drove into a spot, then noticed the spot in front was empty, so began to
roll into that. A large station wagon driven by what was probably Mrs
Idiot's husband decided he wanted that spot, and did the back and forth
thing that people like him have to do to park their station wagons, so I
didn't stand my ground but backed into the original spot.

And since he was disposed to be a dickhead, I didn't tell him he'd left his
lights on as he marched off into the mall.

Huh? You were kind enough not to keep the silly cow in the servo waiting
and skipped washing your windscreen but you spitefully didn't tell the
dope in the station wagon who probably hadn't seen you, that he'd left
his lights on.

IMHO you should be nice to others regardless of how they treat you.
Karma and all that.

People silly enough to fill up on a weekend, that is :) Wait until
Tuesday, it's cheaper.

Fair enough too. On more than one occasion I've started to drive into
a spot only to have someone drive through from the other side. You
want that spot, you drive into it from the correct side - if you're
driving through and someone on the correct side is coming into it, it's
only fair and reasonable that it should be their spot.

So what makes yuou think you're entitled to two parking spots? Can't be that
hard to back out in a Vitara.

I like the moron who parks against the side of the SS to buy smokes, thus
cutting 3 bays exit off forcing everyone to do 3 point turns. The 'piece di
resistance' is the whacko who parks in the middle of two pump lanes,...it
has happened.

uh-uh. In Queanbeyan it stays fairy stable, but on weekends it's the
cheapest. It was 108 on Sunday. Tues-Wed it goes up.

No, it's dead easy. but it's always nice to drive straight out when you get
the chance. And I was half in the spot when he commenced his see-sawing back
and forth to get his car into the spot.

I get that warm fuzzy feeling of being able to drive straight out of car
parks because I always reverse in

you do realise reversing is the better way to enter a car park space

Except if you need to get a trolley up to the boot, and
someone's driven into the spot behind you too far. That's the
only reason I go in forwards.

In the carpark I use, there appear to be three types of
spaces:

(a) The ones at the overlapping half levels. I need to
be very carefull entering these reversing to avoid
hitting the overhang of the concrete slab above
due to my vehicle height - once went a little too
far, thought "oh shite!, this ain't gunna be pretty"
as vehicle came to a stop. No worries, just a small
scratch in the paint at the top of the tail gate, no
dent as I can see looking at it from lotza angles.
Contact was on the RHS edge, no damage of
galvanealling, I'll have to dab on a couple of
very small spots of touch up paint when I get
a round 'tuit. On spots of touch up paint, as I
will on driver side door under lock as what's
left of my key ring assembly (used to be a
leather pouch, however now more a metal bar
with keys on it), after constant usage, appears
to have rubbed off a small round mark in the
paint under the lock ... anyway back on topic:
Ordinary cars could fit boot/bonnet under. If
I drive forwards into, the top of the bullbar
makes contact and nicely stops me from
making a mess of bonnet.

(b) My favorite, the ones on the outer edges of the
car park - just reverse in until tow hitch thumps
into metal railing, or on the lower level, brick
wall and vehicle stops ... you are positioned
ferpectly and it was all too easy.

(c) Centre ones. Now here you have to be very
carefull (and I've not yet got this wrong, or
caused any injury, damage, or death) reversing
into, as I really don't wanna, could be expensive
as the tow hitch could make an interesting random
mess to vehicle behind. These I will almost
certainly reverse into though.

All that said, yeah I like to reverse in generally.
Depends on a number of factors of car park
layout, in particular the space I need to use,
as with a vehicle of over 5 metres in length
you need to consider whats around you.
and how other vehicles are parked.

Pickup trucks are usefull in the fact you can
load stuff from the side though. Come to think
of it, if you don't need to carry pax, I've found
4x4 single cab pickup trucks are prolly the most
usefull/versitile items one could own.

Morally? I don't care, much, as my car is almost square. You have to reverse
it at some point, unless you drive in front ways and drive out front ways!
This guy wasn't reversing, btw, it was just the usual person in a giant car
that was way bigger than their ability to park it. Or turn the lights off.

I have been driving giant falcodores the past few days, incidentally, and
whilest cumbersome and clumsy, they are surprisingly easy to park and go
quite fast around roundabouts and curves, so I don't know what all the fuss
is about.

Har. If something won't fit in the Vitara, I just take the roof off!

scratching paint... many years back, Vitey was encased in snow and then a
good layer of ice after spending a week in the Guthega carpark (at
1550metres). So I got my trusty entrenching shovel and got it off. Only a
few times I broke through a bit too close (and got quite brutal with the
windscreen because I thought that only diamonds could cut glass).

So vitey was covered in scratches. and while diamonds may cut glass,
entrenching shovels will certainly scrape it.

You can buy a sort of pen contraption at car shops with paint loaded into
it, but sadly they didn't have vitey's exact colour so I got some mitsubishi
charcoal, which was slightly darker than vite but it did the job, kind-of.
The windscreen however had to wait until the inevitable crack went the full
width and I got it replaced a few months back (windscreens are very cheap
right now).

I've got a slight "look left and right" patch on windsceen where
someone (not me) decided to scrub stuff orf, went to get it repaired,
this was many years ago. Some dude buffed it out. prolly better,
but if you look close in the right spot it's a bit distorted.

Vehicle glass/metalwork is quite strong when subjected to the elements.
Taking at it with various implements, it may have a problem with.

With the 'lux, the very very small spots still have galvalelling, it's
not
gunna rust and I can take my time. I've got the proper paint, however
need a 'round tuit to mix up around 1ml of 2 pak and do the dab - dab
thung. I'm not sure when, due to galvanelling, the 'lux isn't asking me
to,
it's not gunna rust, even by ocean. Q-tip cotton bud maybe?

Ever had some goose leave a nasty note under your wiper complaining that
you parked close to their car and ALMOST damaged it

classis that

so your pissed off because you wanted to drive through to the other car
park spot and he blocked you.

think of it from his point of view
he sees an empty spot and goes to drive into it
and then some silly old bat in one of those pint sized buzzboxes who
can't park for shit tries to take up two spots which means he would have
had to reverse out and then drive on to find another spot

so the worst thing that happened to you was that you had to reverse back
into the original spot and let him have a spot too

what side of your property boundry is your fence on??

Yup. I'm not sure in relation to parking too close, however suspect
someone bumped their knee (or their car - dunno) on the tow
hitch sometime during the day, got the shites, and decided to
leave a note complaining about how innapropriate the design of
the tow hitch was.
