Why would someone select this over the z500? It's dearer and doesn't seem to have any extra features.

Why do some people buy Sony and others buy Pioneer;) Lots of reasons why people buy what they buy, choice is a good thing I guess:)

The helios x3000 has *1080p*.

the z500 (sigma chip) can't decode/output 1080p can it?

Both are built on the same chipset though
