Is that 20% less than Sony's over-inflated RRP, or 20% less than the much
more reasonable retail prices that are appearing around the traps?

Resolution is only part of the equation. If the display technology itself
is crap, then nothing can save it.

I would not buy any Sony products, they have lost the plot over the past
few years. Now that they are also into movies and music, they seem to be
obsessed with digital rights management instead of ensuring their products
are what they used to be, leaders in technology and quality. Reading the
forums, it is obvious that there are so many people unhappy with a range of
Sony products. One example

I have a $2200 40" no name LCD for use in my bedroom and there is none of
that ugly blotching on the dark areas of the screen, so how come a premium
priced Sony LCD has the defect. The founder of Sony would turn in his
grave if he was aware of the overpriced crap Sony turns out now.
