I bought a LG V181 unit a number of months ago. I have been perfectly happy with it and have no real problems.

I have downloaded a number of media files which are HD with AC3.2 audio (think I am correct, I am by far not up with codecs and encoding stuff) and this media will not play.

So my questions for help are

Where do I find the firmware for this player
Is updating the firmware like modern bios for a computer - Ie only the correct firmware will install
Can I rollback/backup the current fireware easily
Updating the firmware going to resolve my issue or offer me anything i am missing out on?

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi Lord Smelly, if they are HD files, they are probably encoded as 960x544 resolution or something similar.
Most players (except the higher end Sigma based players) can only play files that have a maximum resolution of 720 wide and 576 high.
This is a limitation of the chipset and cannot be changed by firmware.

many thanks for your prompt reply and explaination.

Is there any point in updating the firmware anyhow?

It really depends on if you are having a problem, or if there are good features added that you need.
You are unlikely to find additional codec support, but have a look see if they have a changelog file at all for changes, you never know.
