Hello all,
I have a digitec DVB SD recorder which saves files in 1gb chunks as
MPEG-TS. I have transfered the resultant files to my USB drive and then
onto my computer. so
can anyone recommend a good, free mpeg editor for windows XP that will
work with these files and allow me to chop out ads etc ? I would like to
not need to re-render these files if necessary.
Cheers.

Try Mpg2Cut2.

You may also like to consider converting the TS to ordinary (PS) MPG,
since LOTS of software prefer PS to TS.
PVAStrumento can do the conversion.

I know how to do it anyway, but is that the right link?
Hmm, it's an odd answer for an FAQ, sort of like saying "Fix a broken
leg by mending it." Yes, but how.
(PlanetX (java based) will demux TS streams.)

I tested a dozen of lossless mpeg2 cutters and didn't like most of them.
I wish VirtualDubMPEG had the ability to save, I find it a perfect
blend of simple yet effective. I ended up using
http://www.mdienert.de/mpeg2schnitt/ which is in English even though the
site is in German. I am not sure if it takes TS streams. Mpg2cut2 looks
ok too.

MPEG Streamclip will work with these files and you can do cuts etc. Also you
can do edit out commercials using ProjectX. Both programs are free

I demux with ProjectX, edit with Mpeg2Schnitt, then create VOB files
with Ifoedit,
There's probably an easier way, but this always gives
good results.

How do you create VOB files with IfoEdit? Is there a manual somewhere?

Alan, that's exactly what I do for making DVDs from TS captures. It
doesnt get much easier. Did you know that you can also run ProjectX in
batch mode? I do my week's worth of captures in one go, although I
encode most of my stuff to Xvid rather than MPEG2-PS. It requires a
couple of more steps, but no big deal.
