Saw this at my local JB HiFi for only $99. From what i remember it had HDMI output (720p/1080i), memory card read (memory stick/SD)
Basically all i want is decent hdmi/dvi output and ability to play AVI + Subs. Has anyone tested this unit with Subs? I can't find ANYTHING about it on the net...
i was interested in the omni 1000 as i can get it for $70 but i've heard many people complaining of jerky HDMI video output. I'm after a dvd player purely to connect with my 22" WD CMV screen and often play Divx with subs so both are crucial in the purchase.

Hi
Got it from JB yesterday for $92. Plugged it in and no power to the unit.
I guess that says something about the build quality of this machine. Will have to take it back and will prob get a different model. If this one's already kicked the bucket and I haven't even used it yet, how long will another one last???
2nd DVD player that I've brought in the last four days that doesn't work, so maybe the el cheapo chinesey is not the way to go.

i recently got the Philips DVD DVP5965K from bing lee in Marrickville for $125... its advertised in shop as $169, but they reduced straight down to $129 and then to $125 for cash :P
Its been good so far, except i was hoping it could upscale to 720p/1080i over hdmi to DVI converter (for my 22" LCD) ...it doesnt... only upscales to 720p+ over straight HDMI to HDMI connection. It still does 420p tho, which is bloody nice anyways :)
plays mp3, DVD upscaling, HDMI output, Divx, avi and has USB 1.2 input for external hdd or some usb cards
hope that helps

No HDMI player that supports HDCP will allow you to feed upscaled output to a display that doesn't support HDCP, which includes most DVI displays.
There is also an issue with the deinterlacing on that Philips player which causes it to produce poor quality progressive output when dealing with interlaced source material (i.e. most DVDs).

Unencrypted files can be upscaled, but that's all, commercial DVD's almost always support the encryption.

I just stumbled across this forum while looking for info about this player. Lot's of good info here.
The QPD500b has just gone on special @ J B for $78.
Anyone had any experience with this unit?
Is the card reader any good for use with xvid's?
Does anyone know of a player that will play xvid off a usb stick and has optical out? - Or just play decent video without problems with transfer speeds?
Don't know that one.
The LG has had good reports so far - might want to check that one out.
I think people were saying the LG could be got from JBs for about $99.

Not sure but I think the orginal poster was interested in the Soniq partly because it has upscaling capabilities, which the LG does not have.
