View Full Version : Will the Cricket World Cup be shown in High Definition?

Viewers in the UK have got used to popular sporting events such as the
English Premiership Football, Wimbledon, the World Cup, and
domestically hosted cricket being shown in High Definition (HDTV) so
were disappointed that the Ashes series was not shown in the high
definition 1080i format (and also disappointed with England's
performance! ;-) ).
Does anyone know if the Cricket World Cup being played in the Caribbean
this January will be shown in HDTV? Having spent time in Antigua and
St Kitts recently I doubt the local TV stations have such technology,
but I imagine this event may be brought to us by a major international
outfit?
Anyone have the low down on whether it'll be in glorious high
definition? It's not in my EPG yet?
Cheers,
David

Very Interesting question, but since the broadcasters will be getting
the most money from the sub-continent which has no HDTV presence, I'm
assuming it is not worth it for anyone to do that
I mean who wants to invest in a target market of five people?

Cool, I am UK based so will hopefully enjoy another great performance
from the team. Shame Foxtel back home are not as up to date as BBC and
Sky here in the UK - strange as Foxtel and Sky are both part of the
Murdoch's News International group?

Does anyone know if the North American broadcast is going to be HD?
Having got used to watching most of the sports in Canada in HD, it will
be a disappoinment if the World Cup is not in HD.

If you are in the UK, you're lucky: Sky will be broadcasting the World Cup
in HD.
Foxtel in Australia will be using SD.
