Not even BIGT could have known the market and fuel prices was going to
turn like this [makes no differerence, they are segment #1 sellers with
Corolla and Yaris], but yeah Daihatsu sales could have been strong now.
Still avail. across the Tasman:

Love the price of the Delta truck, $0 !

Just picking on your maths, K.
27km/l = 3.704 L/100 km = 37.04 L / 1000 km
Anyway, not long ago the Nissan Micra (sp) was rating at around 4.6 L /100
km.

Looks like cross between the Diahatsu Serion and the Toyota Echo. Still so
ugly me think.
Would look like Pikacu (in pokemon) if the stick a couple of pointy ears on

Daihatsu sales were so dismal that they had no option but to pull the pin.
Dealers, us included had 2.5 year old brand new cars sitting on the lot. A
brand new Delta truck that we were forced to take took nearly three years to
get rid off.
Their positions was not helped by overhyped but crap product more recent
years.

So far out of touch... the Lupos hasn't been available new for quite
a while.
The successor is the Polo Bluemotion... with TDI gets an average
fuel consumption of 4.0 l/100km (3.2 l/100km highway) with very few
compromises. Engine is 59kW. Price comparable to Polo with similar
options.

27km/L on this Diahatsu is equal to 3.70L/100km, which is pretty good.
For comparison a Prius is 4.4L/100km, a Yaris is about 7L/100km, a
Camry or Aurion is 9.9L/100km, and a Commodore is almost 11L/100km.
So it uses about three times less fuel than a Commodore.

Would that have been some of the weirder stuff like the YRV? I thought
the Sirion was at least still selling okay until the new model came
along.
I don't think the almost total lack of marketing would have helped
anything - I can't remember seeing a Daihatsu ad for years.

Sales were very slow and they went comatose when the new one came out.

Anyone who drove one walked away very unimpressed and never looked back.
Daihatsu had their glory days with the old, old Charade and have been on a
downhill slide ever since.

The 3-speed automatic is quite pathetic on the base model - and no surprise
that it's the least efficient model.
It's also interesting to see the Japanese use the American term 'gasoline'
rather than the European 'petrol'.

Only because they announced they'll be closing shortly after the new Sirion
was released, so of course sales are going to plummet. The car received
good reviews from what I read.

I'd be more interested to know where they go to buy it - four days in
Tokyo and I seriously cannot recall seeing one single service station.
Even after I realised on the second last day that I hadn't seen one and
deliberately kept an eye out, I didn't spot one anywhere.
Maybe it's like Canberra, they're not on any of the main roads so you
think there aren't any at all.

Best you tell VW in Mexico that, they will be rather surprised by that,
they still sell NEW Lupo's.

Show me another *production* vehicle powered by ANY fuel type, that
does better mileage for THE SAME COIN VALUE....
This is Toyota, you know them, they helped & saved Porsche with JIT
manufacture techniques, now we have Porsche showing VW production
techniques that Toyota showed them.......
