Hi guys.
My last car service was 1,500km ago. I got the front brakes changed.
Whenever I'm braking they emit that high pitched scraping sound. It's
very annoying. I thought it would go away after a while but it's been
over 6 months.
Why is this happening?
Thanx 4 looking.

Did they forget to refit the anti rattle shims on the back of the pads?
My old man did this and his car sounded like a bird wildlife reserve
everytime he hit the brakes.

Have you tried asking a psychic?
Otherwise... lift the bonnet and locate the manufacturer's compliance
plate. On it you should find the make of car (or at least the name of
the manufacturer), the model of the car and its year of manufacture.
It would also be useful to know precisely what part of the brakes you
had changed... eg drums or rotors, calipers or wheel cylinders, pads
or shoes. Whether the parts were new or reconditioned might also be
relevant, as would the type of friction material used (including the
brand).

Get them checked if a scraping sound. Apprentice might have put one in
arse about, assuming you had pads only changed. Squealing sound can be
poor rotor condition moving the pads about excessively and/or discarded
anti-rattle components.

Do you own a Vitara? On the early ones the standard pads were hard as,
and they all squealed.

Why has it taken you 6 months to get the shits with it
I only got 7 klms and 10 minutes after my cars last service before
stopping and getting on the phone to complain about the dodgy brake repair
they sent a mobile mechanic to fix it and refunded me the cost of the
entire service
no way I'd wait 6 months

It's a high pitched shrill sound. It's a very common sound. I often
hear cars with noisy brakes that sound the same.
I have a 93 VR Commodore.
On my invoice it says:
Supply & Fit Front Brakes. I was charged for labour & brake pads.

If they changed the disk pad without changing the anti sqeal shims then they
have not done the job properly.Disk brakes have special shims to stop sueal
that cheap operators don't replace. Take your car to a dealer (for your
model of car) who should be able to tell you what the problem is.
