Watkins slams P-plater bathtub stunt

NSW police minister John Watkins has slammed a drunken bathtub towing stunt
in the Riverina as "moronic" and has urged P-platers to smarten up.

Police have charged an 18-year-old P-plater with dangerous and drink driving
offences after a man was caught towing a friend in a bathtub behind his
utility in Griffith.

The police say the man returned a blood-alcohol reading of 0.145 when they
pulled him over just after 8pm (AEDT) yesterday.

His 30-year-old friend, dressed in a helmet, motorcycle boots and overalls,
was sitting in a porcelain bathtub.

Mr Watkins today said he was incredulous anyone should mount such a stunt.

"Some people just don't get the message," he told reporters.

"This behaviour, if accurately recorded, is just absolutely moronic,
absolutely stupid.

"What were they thinking? This person could have been severely injured or
killed at this time."

Mr Watkins urged the state's P-platers to drive sensibly and take their road
responsibilities seriously.

"You can't, unfortunately, protect people from their own stupidity, but the
message has to go out to anyone who knows a P-plate driver...tell them to be
smart with their driving," he said.

Good'ol country bumpkins having a bit of fun, nothing to do so you make
your own entertainment, having a bit of a cry over lack of rain really

Maybe they could tow Watkins around but without the bathtub?

Not like they where towing him at 150km/h

yeah exactly. its all sadly the same old shit, just occuring more and more
often. mental giants from the city thinking they know whats good for
everyone else. i mean simply reporting this sort of thing in major papers is
far worse than the actual incident.

I know a bloke used to tow an old round fronted mini bottom behind hi
4wd on the beach with mates on it. They reckon aver 50k's an hour it
got that light you could steer it by shifting your body weight.

He reckons they got sick of sand everywhere so they started wearing
asbestos removal suits.

Stuff like that needs to be video'd to show the kids of the future what
fun was

A few months ago I heard a loud rumbling and a yahoo or two. Looked up the
street to find a guy flying down the road in an old cast Iron bathtub. mates
following in a ute and they each tried the run in turn. Bloody thing looked
very hairy but they had a blast, They also had all the safety gear on, Id be
more concerned about having an off and the bath breaking up, those things
are fricken sharp when broken!

All in the best spirit though, good on them.

And post on Youtube as well so we can all have a laugh. I used to tow mates
around a paddock behind the 4x4 on an old Morris bonnet (One that had sort
of wings on the sides that we used as handles) great fun and Id have no
hesitation in doing that now a days. Unfortunately you would have to get all
riders to sign a waiver before you did it though, sad times.

All completely useless against shards of porcelain. Still, had it shattered
and taken out the moron in the tub it then there would be one less idiot to
tarnish the gene pool.

Driving is a privilege, not a right and it's about time people started
taking it seriously IMO.

Damm right, too - I read all threads mentioning sense of humour assiduously.
I need opportunities to prove I don't got one.

out on some backwater road without many people around, who cares? thats lke
it or not what australia used to be partially about. buggering around with
your mates doing slightly stupid things, a society without risk is a
seriously shitty place to live. too late it seems for most of metropolitan
australia.
