I was talking with a friend who just traded his ML to a RR and mentioned
there wasnt a month of its life that it wasnt in the workshop getting
repaired.

Now I know the ML is a piece of shit, but what happens if you buy one and
get a 3 year warranty say on a 3 year old car.

Is it different if offerd by MB as opposed to the dodgy used car shop?

And I know it wont cover pads and tyres, but what if you sunroof and
electric seats stop working, the power window breaks, the console gets
loose, the ABS sensor comes on etc etc - are all those non consumable things
going to be covered, or are 2nd had warranties not as solid as the new car
warranty, where they replace anything virtually, with no questions asked.

I have always been interested in this....

Second hand car warranties are more like insurance. Check carefully
what is covered, how much excess you have to pay, and what other
conditions (eg mailing service stamps) there are. There may also be
limits on the total they will pay out per fault.

In Victoria a dealer has to provide a 3 month warranty if the car is
less than 10 years old, and has done less than something like
160,000km. Unless the model has a bad history you're probably better
off ignoring the extended "warranty" and using this period to correct
any faults.
