LG DVD recorder 4812W Not playing DVD's

Hi All,

I've been using the LG DVD recorder 4812W for the past 24 months, and have burnt about 100 DVD's. Last week my recorder stopped reading DVD's. It does not read any DVD's (Normal DVD's from the shop) or DVD-R recorded on the PC or same machine.

Earlier the recorder was able to read, play and record DVD's without any issues.

On further investigation, I have realised that it plays CD's, MP3 and VCD's formats, but not DVD's.

Anyone has any experince with this error? Any thoughts on solutions?

Sounds like drive failure, they use a different laser for each format.

I have had the same problem with 2 LG DVD players. The first of them failed to read anything just after the warranty had finished so had went out and bought another and some times it suddenly comes up with cant read.
Its strange some times the current one will play all regions and non burnt DVDs but other times vice-versa. Im not really a big fan of LG now but I only purchached them as a cheaper alternative.
