Make a good cattle branding prehaps?
Seriously, think it represents all the letters
in TOYOTA
You gotta T, O, Y, O, T, and if you stare hard
enuf, an A.
Taken to the next step it's meaning is all fuzzy
trust/customer/technology stuff that overlaps each
other and generally gets into bed with each other.
I actually like it. The previous logo was kinda lame.

Ah, the "floating exception" :-)
Wasn't it Ford that could produce the turd on wheels that
would sell?
Meybe the 'puter industry could not deal with floating
exceptions much either.
Agree though, they have lost the plot in what ToyCo
now produce, and have more focus in becoming #1.
I would not be happy with a 2007 'lux, however am
ferpectly happy with my modified 1990/1991 model.

Are the new ones just not as well built/engineered as the older ones?
I got the Top Gear DVD for Christmas and that segment where they try
(and fail) to break an '86 Hilux Diesel is just amazing stuff. I think
it's pretty well known that I'm not a fan of Toyotas, but I do like
their commercial and offroad vehicles for that level of
indestructibility.

My feeling is that the newer ones are not quite so unbreakable
and most likely involve technology for the sake of. They are also
built god knows where under ToyCo's "choose a country of
cheap labour and build it there" idea. Earlier ones where
Japanese, plant P11 comes to mind. 'lux was also sold as
Volkswagon Taro.

I think that some models were actually built by VW,
so there you go - if you like VW - you like the 'lux :-)
Mine (Dec 1990) I can simply take it apart and fix whatever I
need to using the standard tool kit I can carry about. Think I
only have one SST (Special Service Tool) huge fecking socket,
for front wheel bearings.
It's a fairly amazing vehicle with getting close to 220,000
on it now. Still got a comment over xmas "oh, I thought it
was a new one".
When I look at the service manuels for the new stuff - how
many bookshelves do you need, and why?
Mine is just simply a body/chassis service manuel and
engine manuel that cover just about everything, and in
detail too.
I was actually impressed with a new t/diesel 'lux that
delivered a ton or so of sandstone here last year - it
appears it can do the work.
I kinda like the older stuff though. It's prolly the golden
age now for the xN106 series 4x4 'lux as parts are a plenty
if you need them (yes I should go collecting) and it's easy
to work on, does the job and prolly will for the next 20 years.
There was also some Top Gear Hilux boat thing involving
the next (same as mine) model on IIRC.
