I'm researching some new cars to use to haul light but bulky items around
protected from the weather. Choices are basically the "Big Two" either in
utes (with hard tonneaus) or wagons.

Naturally, no-one actually lists dimensions for basic storage capacity just
volume. I don't care if it has 400L of storage, I'm not filling it will a
liquid or a gas!

My main requirement is 2100mm linear length (or there abouts) with a minimum
seated width of 700mm (which most would cover).

Does anyone have actual dimensions for the storage areas of Falcon and
Commodore Utes/Wagons? Obviously wheel well intrusion needs to be included
for each.

Now, pickup trucks, or even utes and wagons have a problem.

Bulky high items need you to eliminate any sort of canopy which
can be a PITA when required. The reason I got rid of the canopy
on my 'lux was "can't fit a dirt bike under that" plus would not
fit in garage anyway (single cab, upwards slope of garage floor,
so just fits by 10 mm or so).

I think you seriously have to get tape measure out and look, feel,
measure, and work out what would be best. Width/length dimensions
are not of any meaning if there is other shite, such as wheel wells
along the way.

2100 is fairly long. I think my 'lux is around 2200.
Wide would be around 1550. Single cab. The wheel wells give me
the screaming shites.

I think you really have to go look, and consider what is best.

This is not a question of numbers only - practicality and what
worx.

I'm not overly fussed in height and I do see the issue you mention. Been
caught with that once before when loading a friends vehicle...height was a
problem as well as the narrowing width at the roofline.

I realise I may have to do this. It is surprising that manufacturers don't
provide basic dimensional sketches of the cargo areas.

2100 is with a safety margin, I can actually do with something a bit
shorter.

Yup.

Thanks

Is that with the rear seat down? I'm pretty certain that would suit my
requirements.

Just to add some info, height isn't as big an issue as linear length and
width.

No idea, can't find the figures and I'm told (correct me if wrong) that the
new VE Wagon and Ute aren't due off the production line for some months.

> might have to be a ute ?

I would prefer a ute but may be forced to consider something for
occaisonally carrying passengers.
