Hello,
I am in the market for a new dvd recorder mainly for the purpose of playing movie files with the extensions
mpg, avi, etc...
but also with a hdd so I can record programs without the need for a blank dvd
What would be the best system for playing all the different types of extensions (I have heard that some divx compliant dvd players sometimes do not play all the file extension formats)?
Thanks

Pretty sure the LG's play divx. Not sure which models though, but the LG's are good.

Panasonic EX75 for about $650 with 160 HDD, Divx, SD Card, DVD Audio, DVD Video, CD, MP3, JPEG, Standard Definition Tuner, HDMI upconvert to High Definition and more.
DIVX is one type of MP4. There are lots of others. No one dvd player plays all the different codecs going around except the XBOX. However the Divx certified DVD players will play around 95% of the avi, divx files floating around.

Those DVD recorders with Divx functionality are getting cheaper by the month. $650 is a steal.
