Is it just me or is the iPod Nano's sound on the bass end totally distorted
when bass is incresed in any way? There's not enough bass to start with in
the fist place, but you can't increse it without distortion. Is there some
sort of firmware upgrade or something to solve this?

I flashed my Nano with Rockbox (http://www.rockbox.org/) and get very
good sound quality.

Yes, it's called an iPod Video.

Too big and heavy in comparison. That's why I got a Nano in the first place.
I'm talking about a better brand. I'm currently using Shure E2C earphones
which are nice, but lack a little bass. Bass enhancement via the EQ is
pretty shit on the Nano I find. Maybe I should get a pair of Shure E500PHT
when I get a better player, but they're above the $700 mark.

The standard iPod earphones that come with my 4th gen iPod work well, if
that helps?

It happens with the original Apple Earphones, Sony earphones, Sony Ericsson
earphone and also $150 Shure E2C headphones. They can handle more bass on
products that can boost bass to boomy levels, so it doesn't seem to be an
issue with the earphones.
