G'day,
I've just inherited an LG DVD Player, DF8900p, which has been modified to play from USB drives. Catch is, it doesn't currently work.
Apparently the USB function is fine, though I don't have an external drive to test it at the moment.
The "problem" is with the DVD drive. When you insert a disk, it reads the disk for a moment, producing a still image, no audio, and then freezes up. It doesn't respond to any input other than Power Off, though despite the LCD screen saying "Off", the image remains on the TV screen, and it will not Power On. You have to pull the plug, then quickly press Open when you resupply the power to get the disk out.
I'm advised that it's more than likely out of warranty (especially given the USB modification), and my Misses can't see the point in spending money on repairing a DVD player when we already have a working one (a Philips 736k, love it to bits - but it doesn't do DivX...).
So - what is the likelihood that this fault is repairable by a backyard hack with a soldering iron and hammer/chisel? :) (Or even a few more advanced tools).
cheers and thanks
