Wheels has lost the plot giving it to the VE Commodore and why was the
BF2 Falcon excluded in the COTY?.

BF2 wasn't a totally new car, just a slight change from the previous BF and
BA. Same way VZ was excluded a few years back.

Hmm...

Looks like another crunchy nut :)

Because it's a BA Falcon with a 6 speed auto and a different front bumper.
The award is about *new* cars, not tarted up old ones.

The way people carry on about the VE is funny its like the car has broken
into their houses and rolled them. :-)

Thanks, but I'd rather finger my arsehole than read a load of crap about
some meaningless award not won by a bunch of whinging Ford sooks.

Isn't it run much the same way as the Oscars? i.e. it's totally bodgy?

Is anyone influenced in their purchasing behaviour by such awards? I
doubt it.

The commodore looks like a huge hunk of energy-guzzling, air-polluting
metal and rubber. That 4WD that was on the news looked like the
Canyonero from The Simpsons. I got images of reckless urban-based
poseurs tearing up beaches and wilderness on their weekends and running
over kids in driveways and at school crossings. If anything, the
promotion lowered my opinion of those running the car industry.

There was nothing to suggest they'd substantially taken on board the
concept of having a low environmental footprint. No wonder GM in
America is in such dire straits.

Let them have their silly award. It's of no significance at all.

Fran
Plainly, they are clueless.

Here's a crazy, radical suggestion: you guys buy the type of car you like, and I buy the type of car I like. Who the fuck woulda thought?

It's the biggest selling model in the country, and soon to be exported in
reasonable numbers, so perhaps they aren't quite as clueless as you might
think :)

But are they trading profitably? That's less clear. I suspect not. And
if they aren't, how long will it last?

If GM in America is in a mess, it's hard to imagine the Australian
operation is viable longterm.

How long is a piece of string?

Despite their size, Auto manufacturers are only as good as their current
model, and at the moment Holden seem to be doing a lot better than most
other local manufacturers in the large car segment.

Whether they're making money or not I have no idea, but there's been nothing
to suggest that they aren't.

GM in the US is in a mess for exactly the same reason why Mitsubishi
Australia is, and that is largely that they've spent *way* too long trying
to flog shitty cars to people who don't want them. If GM US goes under
Holden will continue to survive only for as long as they're able to pump out
cars that people are willing to buy.
