View Full Version : Where to buy suction cups?

I need to buy some reasonably heavy duty suction cups for a little project.
I want to be able to suction cup an object to the roof of a car for a static
display. Can't use magnets as these will scratch the paint.
I don't care about security of the item (theft) I just don't want it to fall
off the roof of a brand new car and cause damage. The vehicle will not be
driven with the item attached to the roof. The item is a set of orange
flashing lights that weighs around 5kg - 6kg.
I am open to alternative ideas other than suction cups, as long as it is
neat and tidy and looks professional - the whole project is for show after
all.

use strong magnets, glue an oversized rubber pad to each, with a sheet of
felt or two over the top. glue it down, looks tidy, and you'd be hard
pressed to scratch the paint with that.

Use magnets through a layer of thin cloth.

If you want very good suction cups, then contact your local glass supplier
and ask them where they get theirs. Otherwise, buy a universal "roof rack"
or ski bar kit and mount whatever it is you need to mount to that.

If its a static display use the magnets with either felt, dacron or wool
glued to the bottom. You are more likely to get a scratch from the suction
cups.
