The macrovision chip on any DVD player can be disabled, but it's illegal. Maybe a repair guy will do it for you.

Is there any other reason to disable macrovision, besides to burn the DVD???

I can give you one example...
I run my dvd player through my video, for the simple reason that my vcr is stereo (my tv isnt), and my tv doesn't have AV inputs, whereas my vcr does.
Due to macrovision, I very often get a less than satisfactory picture.

Macrovision also degrades picture quality. I suggest if you can find information onto how to disabel the chip then you open your player and do it.
