I am with Optus and I haven't been able to receive messages from
Telstra friends for the past 2 days now. I've called both Optus and
Telstra and neither can help me, both blame the other. I'm getting
very frustrated!

get the a party to complain to telstra

A party network doe initial investigation (smsc logs hlr setting etc)
if issue at optarse end telstra should contact them directly with signal
trace and or smsc logs
btw is your inbox empty and have you turned your handset on and off
lately? (refresh on optarse network.

happy days

Yes, as both companies instructed me I have turned phone off and back
on, I definately have space in my inbox. I was able to receive a test
message from Optus. Of course Telstra wouldn't even go as far as to
try sending me a test message. The other strange thing is that I
received a picture message from my Dad, but cannot receive text
messages.

So how do I contact this A Party?

I've had delays sending SMS recently from an Optus service, to other
Optus mobiles - don't know if it's related or not. Delays of up to 30min
at times.

Try manually selecting another carrier (not Optus) as your
network in your phone's network configuration options. Having
done this, change it back to Optus.

This will force a more fundamental reregistration with the Optus
network, and hopefully include an effective notification to the
Telstra message centre that you're back in business.

Delays of up to two days, at times, have been ridiculously common on the
Optus network for at least two years now.

And of course, Telstra will blame everyone but themselves.

Well, if you are the B-party, you wouldnt know that the a-party had sent you
a message, unless they spoke to you.

and given that you are complaining here, obviously you have spoken to them

I went around in circles for three months between Telstra and Voda over
this very sort of problem. Telstra ended up being a fault, surprise
surprise. Took me hours and contacting the Voda FMT leader and a Telstra
level 3 tech to get it working though.

just to let you all know I ended up getting all my missing messages a
couple of days later when someone suggested to me to put my sim in
another phone. I was skeptical but was at my wits end in frustration
so was willing to try anything. Straight away all my messages came
flooding in. I went back to using my phone straight away and haven't
had any more problems. I still don't know how and why the whole drama
happened but hopefully writing this here will help others in the
future.
