Italy to try 26 Americans over rendition kidnappings
"An Italian judge has indicted 25 suspected CIA
agents in the alleged kidnapping of an Egyptian
cleric who has been under investigation for
recruiting Islamist fighters.
Allegations have also been made against a US
Air Force lieutenant colonel.
The indictment paves the way for Italy to
put the Americans, along with five Italians,
on trial in June in the first criminal case
involving the CIA's extraordinary rendition program.

"European Parliament Condemns CIA Rendition Flights
February 14, 2007 --
The European Parliament today approved a final report
condemning the CIA’s practice of flying terror suspects
abroad for interrogation."

"The CIA did not comment on the case, which has put
an uncomfortable spotlight on intelligence operations
and increased US-European disagreement over combating terrorism.
The Swiss government this week approved prosecutors'
plans to investigate the flight that allegedly took
Nasr over Swiss airspace from Italy to Germany.
And a German prosecutor recently issued arrest warrants
for 13 people in connection with the alleged CIA-orchestrated
kidnapping of a German citizen.
Italian prosecutors say the alleged kidnapping operation
was a breach of their country's sovereignty that
compromised Italy's own anti-terrorism efforts.
....
British opposition Conservative lawmaker Andrew Tyrie,
head of a parliamentary group investigating allegations
into CIA flights, said he hoped the criminal trial would
expose those involved in the "repugnant practice" of
rendition, or moving terrorism suspects from country
to country without public legal proceedings.
Subjects of rendition have said they were tortured in
the countries to which they were transferred.

* War Crimes
"Could Bush administration officials be prosecuted
for 'war crimes' as a result of new measures used
in the war on terror? The White House's top lawyer thought so"
"May 17 - The White House's top lawyer warned
more than two years ago that U.S. officials
could be prosecuted for "war crimes" as a
result of new and unorthodox measures used
by the Bush administration in the war on
terrorism, according to an internal White
House memo and interviews with participants
in the debate over the issue.
- Newsweek 9:14 a.m. May 19, 2004
The White House's top lawyer is not the only one to
think that those responsible for giving the orders,
and not just low level scapegoats, should be held
responsible for War Crimes.
"Former Lib president says Iraq war is criminal"
- The Age 8/4/2004
"A former Liberal Party president today called for
members of the US-led coalition of the willing to face a war crimes
tribunal."
"John Valder, the Liberals' federal president in the mid-1980s,
said there was clear evidence that the war was a criminal act."
World legal experts, people of decency and
integrity everywhere, and posters of
great foresight in this NG, agree.
"This really was the most criminal act from the outset and now
look where it's got us," Mr Valder told ABC radio.
"I would have thought governments in any country that were
supporting this, be they the United States, Spain, Australia,
Britain or anywhere, should be out on their ear."
In Australia, P.M. R. Slicker certainly will be.
I believe he should be sent to TexIraq to perform
crowd control.
"Mr Valder said there was scope for a war crimes tribunal."
Obviously. Senior Liberals have finally broken ranks with
the tory Gestapo, who led Australia into a shameful slaughter
of women and children based on lies..
Australians will not be able to bear the shame until these
war criminals are brought to justice, although it will
probably be suppressed till after they are removed from
power at the election.
"They were party to what has turned out to be an open act
of aggression against a third country that was in no way a
threat to them," Mr Valder said.
"Their reasons for going in have proven to be absolutely baseless."

George W. Bush, a megalomaniacal criminal, will certainly not extradite
the accused to stand trial, and is thus guilty of harboring fugitives from
justice.
George W. Bush should be declared persona non grata by every nation on the
planet which pretends to justice, for his aiding and abetting wanted
criminals.
Italy and others should reconsider their diplomatic status with the United
States. Perhaps when the U.S. is treated like the rogue nation that it
is, America will wake up to what choices it makes in those who attain
power.

Speaking of shallow grasps of global real-politik.........
- do you still claim that mass-murderer Ho Chi Minh was a "great national
leader"?
- When will you provide evidence of the majority of Americans supporting
Bush facing war-crimes charges?
- do you still claim that Allende was "assassinated"?
