Has anyone else expressed their interest in this.. Its to be run Next
Year..
Here is a copy of some information sent out recently to those who have
expressed interest in the proposed Round Australia event in 2008:
Tom Snooks and I have just finished a meeting to analyse the
feasibility of
the event. We have concluded that it will be a goer if we achieve a
field of
100 cars. The 1995 Mobil 1 Trial had 138 starters, 86 in the Trial and
52 in
the Challenge, so the number we require does not seem unreasonable.
The
important thing now is to let as many potential competitors as
possible know
about the trial, and have them respond by email to me. Over the next
few
weeks we will be expanding the announcement of the event to cover the
general media, past Round Australia competitors etc. You can help by
letting
possible interested parties know of the event.
A final decision on whether to go ahead will be made by the end of May
2008,
although the decision may be made sooner if the response is
satisfactory. We
are feeling quite confident that the event will proceed.
Key points:
Days: 12 including 3 day assembly stage from various points to Alice
Springs, one rest day in Alice and 8 trial days to Brisbane.
Distance Approx 9,00 kms including Assembly stage.
Approx Entry fee: $5500 Trial, $4000 Challenge. To be confirmed, and
hopefully not exceeded.
Vehicle eligibility CAMS Historic and Classic rally cars (ref CAMS
manual)
plus Production Rally cars built up to end 1985. No turbocharged or
4WD
vehicles, except that a class for family type 4WDs built up to end
1985
may be considered depending on interest.
Roads: Will be chosen to suit older cars. Definitely no Australian
Safari
type car breakers.
We will keep you informed.
