I have already a LG DF8900P, which I bought a few years ago and am very happy with. I want to buy now another DivX player for my father, which will also be used almost exclusively for .avi files. I went into the Good Guys and I came across the LG DV276 for $99. The page for it on LG's site is here (http://au.lge.com/md/product/prodcategorylist.do?actType=detail&currPage=1&categoryId=0200000302&parentCategoryId=0200000003&categoryLevel=3&productId=1100001304). I can't find any discussion about this particular player on EYO. I suppose it will be alright but maybe not. I am just after something that will play all the same files as the LG DF8900P and is as reliable as I've found that player. Perhaps there is some change with LG in the several years since I bought that player, that's my main worry.

If this LG uses an MTK chipset then I would expect similar results to your other model, some LG models use Zoran chipsets though which I find are not quite as good as the MTK

Thankyou for the reply. I do not know how to work out which chipset the DV276 uses. I've emailed LG but I'm not sure I'll hear a reply.

Not 100% sure, but the DV276's video DAC spec (108MHz, 14 bit) doesn't sound like any version of the MediaTek chip that I've heard of.

Cheers,

Here is a dump of the factory defaults reset page from a DV276:

System Information:

MODEL: LV070A202030D
CHIP ID: MT1389 E
SERVO VER.: 0d54
MICOM VER.: V1.321
CheckSum: 50a6
PROM OPTION: 41 55 00 c7 03 55 f4 ff

This unit is able to play Packed Bitstream files and clips with Custom MPEG matrices.

EDIT: Removed unnecessary crap. I must remember in future to NOT drink 3 cups of coffee in a row then write something in an online forum.

Ok, that answered the question then, it's a MediaTek chipset:)
