View Full Version : Bullet-Proof Media for Panasonic Recorders?

Hi all
(This machine is a DMREH60)
Is there any such thing as a practically bullet-proof media for Panasonic
DVD/HDD Recorders?
I have used only RITEK and until recently they were fine, but the last two
burns I have done, have fallen over 1st time through.
The process failed at different points
I had to hold the OFF button of for several seconds after pressing the
return key for the requisite three seconds to stop the dub because it
basically just sat there for minutes trying to stop.
I can't think of anything else that's wrong with the machine - it has done
lots of burns with a relatively small failure rate, all on RITEK discs.
Perhaps it isn't the media but I am thinking that there may be better
choices out there
Also, I doubt it is the batch of discs as I have already burned around 15
from this spindle.
Any ideas?

Ritek is second (hmm!) or third (poor) grade media.. For a small
increase in price buy first grade media, e.g.
TDK, Sony, Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Pioneer
Life's too short to waste time - have been buying Verbatim TDK and TY
for a few years now and no problems. Some Ritek, CMC and Princo discs
I have used previously have failed within two years.

I own this model recorder along with the EX75.
I use the Orion DVD-R 16X which works brilliantly well with both these
recorders. I can send you two free samples if you like.

How old is the recording please?
The reason I ask is on my EH60 I was going back to delete old
recordings off the hard drive to free up some space and found a couple
that needed to be recorded in non high speed mode and on another
occasion I found that a video on the hard drive had been corrupted
where on play back on a certain point on the hard drive it would
freeze. This video could not be dubbed to anything including Verbatim
or RiDATA DVD-RAM media. The only way round it was for me to create a
chapter point just before the freeze point and just after to edit it
out and then it could dub back.

It may not be the media. Try dubbing back in normal non high speed
which is real time and I think you will find it will dub back. Then
delete that video off the hard drive once you've finalized the DVD
disc.

Just the little qurks that happen from time to time.
Every six months or so I find I have to format the EH60 or EX75 hard
drive so I don't get these annoying little things that happen.
