Hi all,

Thanks for the great forums. This is my first post and I have been lurking and trolling through the posts, learning heaps.

Got a question for the "oh great one" around here. My XMS-888 finally died over the weekend. Am looking for a replacement for this. Have been eyeing off the XMS 855D, (seems to be the one to get from what I read).

Today In SCR, I saw they have a DVX-4350 for $65, looks good. anyone know the chip inside? Have read the sulplus? is crap.

I watch alot of MPEG4, DivX, Xvid, .avi, mpeg stuff so something that handles all manner of these would be great.

Please, your input is wanted and welcome.

Cheers,

These are an MTK chipset just like the XMS855D, the earlier Highlander model used a Sunplus chipset but it seems they have learnt their lesson and worked out that the extra money for a MediaTek chipset is money well spent

Does anyone have any comments on the said unit? Has anyone purchased one yet?

Will the firmware update I'm reading about for the XMS855D work on this unit as it's the same chip inside? If not does it/will it do all that the XMS855D does?

Is this the current recommended Divx machine that members here recommend?

Cheers,

No, updates are specific to each model as they also carry information about what components the player uses, which loader, display, remote control etc, applying an update from any other model (even if they look similar) can easily leave you with a dead player.

It seems to work quite well, I have one but haven't had the time to look at it closely

I got one (dvx-4350) the other day as a replacement for a faulty XMS.

I havent had a chance to really test it but so far there's only a few files it wouldn't play properly. One file has no subtitles (subtitles played on PC ok) and another had no sound , but no player plays everything.

Otherwise it seems good, it played all the formats ive tried, dvd- dvd+ and dual layer+. Most subtitles displayed fine and the majority of the xvid/divx files i've tested worked.

It seems reasonably quiet, a bit of whirring but nothing bad. The remote is pretty standard and is laid out well.

Only thing i dont like is, the zoom display (ie. 2x, 3x etc) stays on screen when you use zoom, i think this is standard with this chip, but i seem to remember the XMS only doing it with dvd video and not with .avi files.

I dont know what the life of the machine will be like, but so far its a good buy for the money.

I bit the bullet and purchased one. Talk about cheap plastic junk but for the amount it costs, I can't whine to much. Poor bastard on the factory floor in Shenzen or Gwandong or whatever/wherever it is, must be making next to nothing from these things. I pity the factory worker.

Seems to do everything I have wanted so far. Just cheap looking as is my only biatch, and that it makes a bit of noise when searching the disc.

S-video output died on it today. Not even a month old. *shakes head*

Will be returning POS on Monday.
