JB Hi FI. Policy on TVS.

Just want to buy a LCD 46inch 1080p TV from them and wondering if
there is a problem what then ???

The TV is a 46 Inch LA46F71BX, A bit set up from my 36 inch 86cm WS HD
TV.

http://www.samsung.com/au/products/tv/lcdtv/la46f71b.asp

They quoted me 3800 delivered and I think thats going to make me buy
it. I think maybe I could get it even cheaper at a Harvey Norman Mega
centre IF i quote JB's price, but would liek to get it from JB as they
are walking distance from my place, if they handle the problems good
though.

Dead pixels other things going wrong ect, I need your input. I seemed
to get the runn around when I asked him or he had no idea in the first
place and was just trying to look like he did.

I'am In Liverpool Sydney NSW.

Pleas elet me know what to ask and if i needed extended warranty ect.

Thanks all.

/PS going to be used a HTPC screen.

I would go with JB over Hardly's any day - and after all is said and done,
the warranty issue is to do with the manufacturer not the reseller

Cheers

Steve

YOURE wrong!! In Australia, under Sale of Goods Act warranty in a
retail transaction is the responsibility of the retailer, not the
manufacturer!!

why don't you check your facts before making these sweeping
assertions? Look it up!!

Kind Regards Dr Patric Scully

YOURE wrong!! In Australia, under Sale of Goods Act warranty in a
retail transaction is the responsibility of the retailer, not the
manufacturer!!

The irony is that both these statements are still not correct when it comes to an extended warranty.

Warranty service can be from one of three sources:

1/ The manufacturer (eg Pioneer 5 year warranty).

2/ The retailer (the usual circumstance, because the buyer has entered a contract with the retailer, not the manufacturer) - There is a statutory (ie legal right conferred by government legislation) 1 year warranty on goods. This can not be overwritten by the retailer or manufacturer excepting specific circumstances (eg advertised with no warranty - such as in refurbished goods). The retailer can offer a longer warranty if they wish.

The statutory warranty can theoretically cover for longer than 1 year if it would be reasonable to expect that the goods should have lasted longer (given the price). However, this arguement is difficult to run and will consume time, money and energy if you choose to go down this path.

3/ Extended warranties - these are usually with a 3rd party insurer (eg most department store extended warranties). The claim is handled through the insurer who will decided to repair / replace etc etc according to the fine print of the contract. Sometimes they will take over warranty repairs after the statutory or manufacturer warranty (whichever is longer), others will do all the repairs, regardless of timing.

J.

Moral of the story: Read the fine print VERY carefully:

Lemon clause - repeated similar faults -> replacement
Repair onsite?, if not, who pays for shipment to repairer, and shipment back.
Where is the repairer.
Does this repairer have any idea of how to repair your model (This is VERY important) - there are plenty of horror stories ("nah mate, never seen one of these before, I'll give xxx a ring and try to find out how to fix it")
Is shipment insured or at your risk.
Is there a limit to the $ value of the repairs (ie the original purchase cost).
Is replacement new for old, reconditioned for old, or $ value.
Are repairs new for old, or are 2nd hand parts ok.
Are costs of (failed) repairs deducted from replacement value?
Who decides on repair / replacement.
Dead pixel warranty - how many pixels, and where are they.
What exclusions are there.
What constitutes normal wear and tear.
What voids the warranty (especially wall mounting)
