Hi guys,
I've searched the forums, and while there are many similar posts, I still can't find a definitive answer to my problem. I'm thinking of buying the following DVD player:
http://www.woxter.com/contenido/productos2.php?idcategoria=21&id=178
it has the following connections:
Connections: 2 SCARTS, 5.1 ch audio output, coaxial, Video out, S-Video output, YUV Output, RF-IN.
- PAL/NTSC compatible.
Unfortunately the Scart input on our TV is screwed, so I was hoping to connect it up to my Dell E176Fpf LCD computer monitor, which has only VGA input.
I know there are cables that would connect the two, but would it actually work?
cheers!
Billy.

You can get conversion cables, and they do work, what's available in your country though I'm not sure, unless you want to buy something online.

You can get a converter box for $95 at electronics shops, that will do it. Or get a maya dvd player with vga out.. but bear in mind you'll have to strip the macrovision signal from the dvds due to a bug where the player outputs thru vga and coaxial simulaneously.. thereby activating macrovision and making all (well, 99%) of original discs unwatchable.
it's great for divx though.

Cheers. :) Actually I'm living in Spain at the moment. Probably can get the cables from somewhere, but I've read a few posts that people have made about buying the cables, but then just getting white noise. Something to do with the signal that the DVD sends and the signal the monitor is capable of recieving. Also something about the monitor being able to decode the signal?
If it is indeed possible, which output would be the best to buy a cable for?
cheers!

Cheers. Will see if I can find one cheap enough to make it worth while. Otherwise I suppose I should just get the TV fixed or buy a new one! :)

Thanks guys!
Ok, here's the latest development... I've found another DVD player by Prinston, with HDMI connector. I know you can buy an HDMI to DVI cable, but I can't seem to find an HDMI to VGA cable... Is there such a thing? All of these converter boxes and cables are pretty expensive, but then the difference in price between Monitors and TV's is pretty huge, so it may still work out cheaper...

Just discovered that Lidl (yes, the tacky supermarket) have a DVD player with DivX, USB input, and VGA out, and it's cheap as chips. Yes, it will probably break after 6 months, but maybe by then I'll be rich and I can buy something good and connect it to my 4 foot plasma screen... :)
Apparantly the new stock arrive on wednesday morning and you have to be there when the doors open to get one... where's that sleeping bag....
incredibly it doesn't actually state the brand on their website, but given that almost all of these cheap DVD's are made from generics, I don't suppose it matters a great deal.
thanks for the help!

Do you have a link to the product on their website?
There are two common solutions used that offer the features this player has, MediaTek and Sunplus, if the player uses a MediaTek solution it will probably be ok, if it is based on the Sunplus solution the performance will be a bit limited.

here's the link:

if it asks you to put in a postcode (codigo postal) use 08003
cheers! :)
