Would you be in favour of an increase in GST to 12.5% if the excise on
petrol prices was removed?
That would bring petrol prices down to about 70cpl inc GST.

Not by my arithmetic!
Today's average price in Brisbane (according to an online source) is
119.8¢
10% GST component is therefore 10.9¢.
Excise component (fixed) is 29.743¢ (38.143¢ - 8.4¢).
(The 8.4¢ state government rebate applies in Q and part of NSW...
other rebates apply in other parts.)
Price less excise and GST is therefore 79.157¢
Price with 12.5% GST would be 89.05¢.
Best you do yours again!... Or is your real name Peter Costello?

I'd favour a 30% GST with ZERO INCOME TAX.

I would be in favour of the Government scrapping the excise. Period.
