Hi there,

I currently own a JVC XV-N332 dvd player that does an OK job of playing MP3 files. However, there are a few areas where it could do better, IMO. For instance, the menus are fairly average, displaying only 6 or 7 filename characters. Also, skipping between tracks is fairly time consuming.

But the worst thing is the way it handles folders. Typically I have CDs & DVDs with my backed up albums in MP3 format. Each album sits in its on folder. Now, when I put an MP3 CD in my Panasonic stereo system and play on shuffle, it'll happily shuffle through every file on the disc.

Yet, when I try the same thing on the JVC DVD player, it will only shuffle through the tracks of one folder ! very frustrating !!

I know that one solution would be just to burn all the MP3's directly onto the CD / DVD...but that would mean the files would not be grouped by artist, should I want to play an album in sequence.

Does anyone have any experience of this problem ? Is there a budget DVD player out there that might fulfil my requirements ?
kind regards,

Mark

Pioneers players with unofficial firmware work wonders.

Out of the box there is no shuffle function and short file names. Once unofficial firmware installed, a shuffle function is provided and it provides long file names on the screen.

There is support for the latest pioneer base model (dv393) which costs around $120.

Firmwares are provided here.

I bought a Panasonic ex75 dvd recorder. It is useless for playing mp3. Only supports cd mp3 playback and no shuffle function. No unofficial firmwares available.
