I purchased a couple of Region 1 DVDs off a auction site and they arrived today.

One is a new title 'Crank' and it's in Widescreen format, inside part of the insert has the movie poster as a background/cover. Small red box with chinese/korean? writing in it with number one (1) followed by four (4) chinese characters and '+OST' on the end.

Other DVD is 'Elektra'. On front cover her right hand has been printed twice/doubled so they appear next to each other. The disc has chinese/korean writing underneath the dvd title. Plus theres writing around the edges of the disc.

Are these real or counterfeits? Most regions ones (1s) i have had are 'cheaper' looking but usually have shinny/holographic paper or different design.

Any help appreciated.

Region 1's wont have Korean / Chinese writing on films which aren't related to the area.

Region 3's yes. Region 1's no.

Just read up on it a bit more, it has 'DVD-9' on the disc aswell. Generally this means its a asian import or bootleg doesnt it?

Had a talk to TheAnswer on IM today and he said the same. I'll be contacting the seller and demanding a return. I have contacted a couple of their buyers and warned them about the seller aswell.
