Hey, I've done a bit of reading on these forums and both the LG 276 and the Pioneer 393 seem to get (mostly) good reviews. I've seen them for $100 (LG) and $125 (Pioneer).

Does anyone have an opinion as to which is better (or maybe, does anyone on this forum not have a strong and forceful opinon!)

Also, does anyone know the region free hack for the LG - is it the "standard" LG one - Power on the player, wait for "No Disc" then press PAUSE (on the player, not the remote) then 3,1,4,1,5,9 (on the remote) in quick succession

Cheers!

Both should be very good players.

The LG will support Packed Bitstream XviD files whereas the Pioneer won't, so this may be a factor if watching TV shows, etc. downloaded from the web is important to you.

Pioneer players have typically had a slight edge on LGs for picture quality, but I think the 276 may have a better video DAC than previous LGs, so this may not be much of an issue here.

One other thing - Pioneer players have a handy function called Dialogue Enhancer. This allows you to boost the level of the centre channel in the 5.1 stereo downmix so voices aren't drowned out by the background music and special effects (if you are listening to movies through your TV's speakers).

Cheers,
BAC

Just picked up one of these today, and it seems pretty cool. I found the region free code as well:

Multizone Procedure:
1. Door Tray Open
2. Push "000" Button
3. Region Code: 0
4. Press "Pause" Button

Enjoy!

Does the DV276 have built-in DTS decoding?LG's web site says it has DTS support but there's no DTS logo in the manual which i thought would be there if there is built-in DTS decoding eg. the DF9921P manual. If not, are there any good region free DivX DVD players that have built-in DTS decoding and upscaling capabilities as well (optional for me)?Saw the LG DN100H and Samsung DVD HD860 today but i guess those only have DTS pass through (?)

From what I have read in the manual the player can output the DTS signal via the digital output only to an external DTS decoder, but it does not have a built in decoder itself, no...

Is the LG DV298H much better than DV276?
