Is there any reason why we shouldn't import DVD players from the US?

Any potential NTSC/PAL or Progressive Scanning issues? Both products below talk about 480p output.

I'm chasing the new Sony DVP-CX985V (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/-/-/-/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=DVPCX985V&Dept=hav) or a Sony DVP-CX875P (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/-/-/-/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=DVPCX875P&Dept=hav) and am having no joy at all with Sony Australia - so am looking at importing from the US.

The idea of a 400 DVD stacker for around $1000AU imported including customs and duties is very appealing!

Thanks

I think you'll find that Aussie Sony DVD Players with progressive scan do both NTSC and PAL, however I doubt the US model does PAL. Most Progressie scan DVD Players (in Aus) are PAL only. -edit- oops I mean NTSC only :(

The last time I was in the U.S. I was looking around for a player and could not locate anything the supported 240v, you will find them these days, but only in the no name brands that we have here. I ended up getting a Sony from Hong Kong, which did support 240v, pal ntsc etc and was all zone. You can forget about getting a brand name player from the states that is all zoned, they are like zone nazis over there.

I'll have to check these out, last time I looked into progressive scan players here, even our ones only did progressive scan on ntsc, there were no capable pal players at all.

Sorry you're right and wrong, most players even here do NTSC only, however there are players (eg Sony) that do both PAL and NTSC progressive scan.

That's why I said I'll have to check them out, they weren't available before.
