Voltage query USA and Australia compatibility

I am going to the USA on Friday. Am I able to plug my phone and video camera
chargers straight into the wall?
The chargers say 100-240V on them.

No as the socket and plug is not compatable. However with a cheap adapter,
you should have no problems.

US uses 120V 60Hz. Most of these adapters are made for 100-240V 50-
60Hz. Obviously no problem, as long as you get the adapter that Mango
suggests. US plugs are three terminals, but many devices ignore the
third hole, which is for ground (earth) only, and only needed for
certain major items, like refrigerators and fax machines :-).

The two regular pins are parallel blades like | | and the third pin is
a round one below the other two.

What you need will look like Catalog #s 273-1406 or 273-1446 at

What you don't need looks like 273-1411.

Yes, if they say 100-240V 50/60 Hz then you are OK, you just need the proper
adaptaplugs so that you can plug them into the wall.

Any airport or place that sells travel stuff like suitcases will sell them. Or
if you wait till you get here to the States, you can walk into any radio shack
or Walmart type store and find them.

Plenty of cool universal adapters you can purchase in oz that clip
together to make a dozen combinations. However, if you are like me,
these get put in a safe place so that when I need them you cannot find
them.

Yeah - my new policy is to throw adapters or cables away after I am
finished with the current use, since I'm going to end up buying new
ones anyway :-) This applies to resistors, capacitors, connectors,
etc., etc.

I just took about 20 pounds (say 9 KG) of cables that I did run across
to the local electronics recycling center. They were old and dusty...
