View Full Version : DivX DVD Players
okay perhaps tech forum is not the best place but questions are semi technical in nature
basically just got paid, have more money on me at the mo than ive had in a while, i wanna spend it on a decent dvd player, got a friend who has a warehouse full of that crap, so going tomorrow, but i want something specific, so i wanna research brands models, etc
anyway im looking for a divx dvd player, that is firmware uprgadeable, is able to read movies from a usb hard drive/usb stick, also thinking maybe a dvd recorder, but im not married to the latter, it can just be a player far as im concerned

able to read movies from a usb hard drive/usb stick,
If this is important the current Philips model seems to get the best feedback

just bought the wintal DVDR-X20 for $150 (got a mate down in a warehouse who hooked me up with a good deal)
everything is new and works well, but for some reason am unable to play divx files off my thumb drive, yet i can play them perfectly from a DVDR, also able to display jpegs from the same usb thumb drive, so the thumb drive works, it plays divx, but wont play from a thumb drive
anyone know why?
They may have intentionally restricted it for some reason.
Don't know about what is in this unit, bust almost all players have USB1.1 ports, so even SD video stutters in some places.
They may have decided it wasn't worth the support effort of everyone harassing them about video files stuttering over USB.
(so they get customers complaining that they can't play them instead ;-) )
got feedback from the company the other day, apparently the X2 doesnt have divx play back from usb, so im gonna go exchange it for the newer X3 model, which does do that.....
fingers crossed

Is it USB 1 or 2.0 capable?
A Jpeg file and a Divx/Xvid file are two completely different things.
its a 2.0
got it, plays divx from usb perfectly, only friggin issue now is that whenever i play a disc (any disc, a divx disc or a proper store bought dvd) the player freezes after about 15 minutes of pay, i cant do anything, i cant even turn the bloody thing off without unplugging it, and afterwards i gotta leave it unplugged for about 15 minutes before i can expect it to work properly!!!!
yesterday i had to walk from spencer st station to the customer care centre (radio parts its called), in the rain, with the DVD player, had alot of people giving me dirty "did you steal that" looks, when i got there i was informed that its a common problem with an easy fix, they had to replace the loader and the heatsink, so they fixed it for me and posted it out to my place, got it an hour ago, pretty quick and its workin perfectly now (thank jebus for that)
for anyone interested this is actually a great player (once youve got everything working) it also records and if you need to burn a divx file to a dvd you can quickly and easily copy it to a usb flash drive and play it on the player, whilst recording it to your dvd at the same time
