Audio/Visual….

CRICKET- The Vintage Performances has a Dolby Digital 2.0 audio track that is in English.
This is the only audio option on the DVD.
The audio on this DVD is acceptable, with clear speech that is in sync and well suited to the screen. Crowd noise can be heard right across the front soundstage at times.
The rears will occasionally surprise you with some atmospheric crowd noise when they are cheering and clapping in some segments and the rears are also used when playing the music on the main menu.
The only music on this DVD is the opening Wide World of Sports theme, the main menu, in between chapters/segments and the end credits and although very brief, it is of a very good quality.
This DVD is presented in fullscreen 1.33:1.
Picture quality obviously varies as there's all kinds of footage from the 70', 80's, 90's and more recently filmed interviews. It's pretty good overall though with a mostly clean and bright image regardless of the year it was televised. Some scenes show very fine grain but the quality is good overall.
Colours are also good overall and do look very good in parts of the DVD such as the recently recorded interviews and the Michael Bevin One Day game but understandably look a bit dull in the older footage.
The audio/visual side of this DVD was actually better than I expected and is very acceptable when taking into account that the content originated from television going as far back as the 70's.

Extra features…..

More on Gilchrist/Langer Partnership - Fullscreen and Dolby 2.0, and runs for just over 8 minutes. Shows a couple of shots from the two batsmen at first. It then plays out the innings as it happened and as it was broadcast.
More on Greg Chappell's Last Match - Fullscreen, Dolby 2.0 and just over 7 minutes. Initially shows him taking his catches in the slips and then cuts to highlights of him batting.
Tim May's Bowling Performance in the Closest Test.- Fullscreen, Dolby 2.0 and about 13 minutes. Starts off by showing the 5 wickets Tim May took and then at the 2.29 mark, it cuts to May and Mcdermott at the crease and chasing the win with their bats.
Last 2 Overs of Michael Bevan's one-day International Victory. - Fullscreen, Dolby 2.0 and runs for about 15.25 mins. This is the whole last 2 overs as they were broadcast on the night.
The back cover lists the above extras, but also includes More on Brian Lara's 277 innings. I didn't see this feature available on the review copy supplied.

Overall…..

Cricket fans rejoice! This is a must have DVD for anyone from the most die-hard cricket attending fan to the occasional arm chair fan.
The performances chosen for this DVD are indeed classic moments and it's a real treat to be able to play them on DVD and have some of the people involved look back on them.
The DVD has been well put together with descent audio and video content and the extras are a nice touch too.
It was good to be able to sit here and watch the final couple of overs of the Michael Bevan one day game as it happened with all the original content that was aired that night. Ah...the memories!
This DVD is easily a winner and I can't imagine it disappointing anyone who knows anything about cricket.
If you like cricket, you should add this to your collection as soon as possible!
I definitely can't wait for the next 2 DVD's in the series if this is anything to go by..
