hey everyone,
I just wanted to ask you all where you think is the best place to purchase r1 dvds from? I used dvdpricesearch.com and decided to buy from dvdboxoffice.com as they had free shipping to australia. There a bit slow but as my dvds been out of stock for about 2 weeks now and they cant even give me an estimation of when it'll be in. I'll hang on for a while longer but. I read some good writeups of them from other aussies, bit dissapointing so far though. Its my first import so I'm a bit overkeen to test out the multizone hack I got...

Yeah but dvdimport.com will not re-imburse if you use the free shipping method and the DVDs are lost. How will you sleep at night?

yeah i have had probs with dvd box office but they replaced the disc so am not phased.they do tend to take about 2 weeks for delivery if in stock,i would recommend them for single dvd purchases.absound is another good one but dosnt have free delivery but is cheaper on multiple dvd purchases than dvdboxoffice.I find there site is very lack luster though and you should know what you want b4 going there.

as Scott mentioned, ABSound are good if buying multiple discs (preferably 6-7 to maximise the shipping). For single discs it pretty much bites ass.
I have an order with DVDBO, but hasn't shipped yet (I heard they are shocking when it comes to backordered items :( )
I also have an order with DVDsoon.com - but the bastards charge up front before the order ships! Nothappy bout that, but it's only one disc.
I use ABSound about 80% of the time, with Amazon being my main source of disc info (along with www.dvdtalk.com).
I need to make an Amazon order soon though as I have a nice US$15 gift certificate waiting to be used.... :D
FWIW, I have never had a US/Canada shipment lost in transit. That's in over 3 years of internet ordering. I had one disk go AWOL from the UK, but it turned up a few weeks after the replacement arrived...go figure! :)

Thanks for the suggestions peoples, I'll check out those stores first in future. Whoever told you that DVDBO are bad on backorders was damn right though.
I use amazon mainly for dvd info also. Some other stores are so barebone it makes you a bit tentative in handing over credit card details to guys who cant even be stuffed to make a decent site...
Oh nothing to do but sit back and see how long it takes DVDBO,

I would not reccommend dvdsoon.com. I lost an order with them and they said I would have to wait 120 days before they can declare it lost. By the time I got my replacement disc it was out in region 4 and in one of those $25 each special deals.

Hi Ive used DvdBox Office and am happy with the service. But as for Dvd Import I ordered Somewhere In Time which they said they had in stock. After more than a month of not recieving the dvd I asked for my money put back on my credit card as they still hadnt sent it out.

Bought a lot of my collection from Ken Cranes (I think their called DVD Planet now) and never had a problem. Also bought a few from DVD empire, again never had a problem, they also have a huge adult section. Bought the most though from DVDExpress, always great service, order on thursday night, deliver on monday morning, although they are now listed as dvd.com, don't know if it's only a name change or what

Same thing happened to me, only they just credited me the value of the order.
Thankfully, at the time of the refund their free shipping promotion was on, so I ended up re-ordering stuff with the credit and stretched it much further.

I eventually gave up on DVDBoxOffice. I can't be bothered waiting around for them to get off their butss and get a dvd in for me. So I ordered from Amazon (used some GCs due to expire so the price was lower than DVDBO anyway).
So far I have placed 2 orders with DVDSoon. ONe for the Royal Tenenbaums which arrived in 7 days in perfect condition. The second order is for Blade 2 (got in before they raised the price) and is still pending the release.
I think I will still use them for single disc orders when they have cheap prices (e.g. Blade 2 shipped was $26CAD!).

:D yes my other freind got royal tenanbuams for me, from there, at a very affordable price!
thats the order, where they gave me supergirl dir cut, instead of LE, but i guess it was my fault, i should of sended it back, and got the LE, oh well life goes on.
