Sony dvp-ns780v I am looking to make this player region free, I am not having any luck finding a way to do this at the moment is any one else aware of how this player can be made region free.

I just put a Region 1 disc in and it played even when the unit has region 4 and the manual also mentions locked to region 4 or region all discs.

I have a Sony DVPNS780V, and even though the manual and box says its Region 4 only, i can tell you it is infact region-free.

Before buying it i emailed Sony Australia asking them if they have any DVD players that are region-free since all the Sony's i'd seen in shops clearly stated "Region 4" on the box.

The responce i got from Sony was something along the lines of that they have to put "region 4" on the box for legal and commercial reasons, but most Sony DVD players are actually region-free.
